XP-120, Ninja, Tuniq Tower, various fans, various configurations

Hi all,

I took some time to compare these 3 heatsinks with various configurations to add some evidence to all the questions out there.

I was going to repost it here, but it took me more than 40 minutes to post the first time, so I'm going to link the thread.

XP-120, Ninja, Tuniq Tower, various fans, various configurations.

I feel like I spent enough time on it, and I answered most of the questions I had.

I do regret not having a BT, when I see one on sale maybe I'll pick it up. I'm skeptical, tho, tower style sinks seem to me to just work better for airflow.

To be honest, if I'd probably say that my next Heatsink to purchase would be the Thermalright Tower, with a little push-pull fan action.

i didn't mean to be rude at all

u did a great job there for sure and thank u very much for it

but can u please compare them with the mobo in a vertical position , since most of us use tower cases wehre the mobo is instaled vertically and i think it may have a negative effect on the vooling performance

and did u mean Thermaltake tower ???

Awesome review - some in-case rather than open scenarios may have been useful, but the sheer variety of testing more than made up for that. Now I'm thinking of buying a Tuniq tower.....

I wouldn't mind seeing the BT go up against them though, and if you felt like testing some more, the Noctua NH-12 hasn't had nearly as many reviews as I would like to see, although it would probably be trumped by most of these sinks.

I'm thinking he meant either the Tuniq Tower, Thermaltake (personally doubt this one), or the Thermalright HR-01 (have no idea how this thing works). I like the BT cause you can put a side hole in it to provide fresh air, but Ninja/Tower style coolers work better airflow-wise. I'm curious, what would happen if you mounted 2 80 or 120 mm fans in push-pull config on the side of a BT in addition to the top fan? I'm a n00b, so there's probably some sort of conflict I don't know of, but has anyone tried this?

I seriously doubt that motherboard orientation would have any effect. Its been a while since any company has used heatpipes that don't have wicking. I've tested my 2 year old XP-120 and its the same, the Ninja was the same, I have every confidence the Tuniq Tower would be fine.

I was talking about the Thermalright HR-01. It has nice dense finnage, and allows for a push-pull configuration. I know it doesn't currently come with a fan clip, but that hasn't stopped me.

Thanks for an extensive effort. BT would be nice, but I think the Ninja outperforms it by a few degrees?

I have the BT and was looking into upgrading to the Tuniq Tower 120.

Here is some summary data:

This chart illustrates the BEST CPU load temp generated by each fan by each heatsink. To find out exactly which fan combination provided the best CPU load temp, I'll let you consult the original numbers. The 3 rows of depth are the 3 heatsinks:

Blue = Tuniq Tower 120
Red = Scythe Ninja
Yellow = XP-120

Each column represents the fan:
YL= Yate Loon 120x25
Tuniq = Tuniw stock fan 120x25
Delta25 = Delta 120x25
Panaflo = Panaflo 120x38
Sanyo = Sany Denki 120x38
Delta38 = Delta Monster 120x38

The height of each column is the cpu load temp, the specific number is labeled in the column.

Thanks for the comparison. I'm considering getting a Tuniq Tower after being unimpressed with the temps from my Ninja (I know onboard sensors can be off, but the idle/load delta is too high anyways.)
