Don't you want to MANTA MANTA. (Getting started on manta. Lots of pics)

    UPDATE!

    1600htt broken!

    Original post

Manta reminds me of that fanta commercial lol.

For those who havent seen it, this picks up right where my grouper thread left off, its an interesting adventure, and it has some pics of my work area in case you are curious, take a look:

    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...ad.php?t=90426

Anyways, lets get going, this is an ATi engineering sample so keep in mind this board isnt going to retail just like this... It will likely follow the white color scheme of the sapphire grouper board. Having an onboard post code reader is extremely helpful for me so far, i hope this makes it into retail boards someday.

Tons of power going to this board, 8pin 12v connector and 2 molex connectors for the video cards. so power delivery shouldnt hold you back hehe.

Here we have the manta and the grouper next to each other. both board are quite sexy, but imo the blue is better. My board has some nice stoppers on the bottom for bench running, pretty neat, maybe something mobo makers should start shipping in the bundle?

finnally ATi has made it so there is some spacing on the dimms, it wasn't fun having bh-5 running dual channel right next to each other at high volts, so this should make cooling much easier. I took close look and thee traces on manta and grouper are completley different.

Here is the power delivery area, looks the same as with grouper, mosfet are slightly different but its probably a different brand or something. I put some arctic ceramique on them

    More coming!

Sexy board - looks like it's running Sanyo Os-Cons = sweet. BTW, the ceramique won't do anything for those mosfets without a heatsink attached to them

EDIT: NVM - just noticed the pic of the HSF :

damn... just one more standard PCI slot, and I might have ditched my DFI for the manta if the OC potential turns out to kick arse...

But with no room for my 3rd video card, it's useless to me! lol

    sexy tho...

    Ok, here we go -

Here is the chipset, i had trouble cleaning it and it was hard to read, but i think it says xpress 300 on it, so perhaps i got an early one.

Here is the chipset cooler with some crappy thermal compound on it... i replaced with ceramique.

I lapped both the coolers, the mosfets werent making good contact at all, the two coolers are identical... Just FYI, i highly doubt the fans on my board are neccesary.

Here is my opteron 146 - it is cooled with a big tornado with a panaflo fan.

Here is a little teaser of it running 300htt with the 5x htt multi, for 1500htt, i have gotten that up to 315x10 now, but thats for later

    Next up - Bios shots

Well here are the bios shots...

This board is the ONLY board that truly has ALL of the drive strengths available in the CPU. And it can do P and N strength independently, again the ONLY board to do it.

Other boards show 16 levels of drive but it's actually 8 levels combined with "weak" or "normal" drive to give a total of 16 levels. Also other boards have the limit that P & N drive have to be the same.
A friend told me this... an amazing amount of options, several more then even grouper... its taking me quite a while to figure out all the settins lol.

I find this last shot very interesting. Not sure what any of these features do but perhaps after testing we can use it to get more out of our video cards?

Last picture for now, i thought this one was cool, through setting pll speed and drive strength, this is how you get over 1500htt, after that, ive found that changing the memory drive strengths will get it even higher.

example, default is 6p -6n driveing strengh, past 310fsb wouldnt boot at 5x multi, however, at 0p-0n, i am in windows now...

It's going to take a while to figure out which works best, unfortunatly.

lol manta reminds me of the best UT vehicle

1 PCI is BS, who in the world came up with such idea. Besides it is so close to PCI-E slot which makes things even worse lol.

well i use the top pci-e so it doesnt matter, i wish they would have included a second pci slot in the location of the second pci-e slot... then i wouldnt mind so much.

Does it still have the vcore bug where you have to use the Offset to increase vcore beyong 1.4? Sweet board, when does it come out?

Well not on my opty, i never tested this opty on the grouper though so it may have just been an x2 thing.

Just to make this clear to most of you guys this is not the actual sapphire board nor is it made by sapphire. And revv some 300 1/1 tccd 32m PI would be nice. If you have questions feel free to pm me. I have a feeling you will when you try to do what i just asked. Actually i would request for users here that you show 32m PI for all stability proof such as ram/cpu/htt.

Is there any performance gain with an over 300 HTT with a 4 or 5 LDT? If not, what good is over 300 HTT with a 4 or 5 LDT when it gives no performance increase in real world programs?

Can you please dl cinebench and do a cpu render test with different LDTs and see if there is in fact any performance gain

    Hey there!

I see that some settings are similar to my ASUS board so I thought we could compare notes...

I got mine stable @ FSB 290 and normal desktop operation @ FSB 300 (PI crashes from time to time...)

I just got the board and really haven't tried (let alone understood ) more than half of its bios options...

So, for starters, are you using the settings shown on the screenshots or are the screenshots "random"?

    Thanks!

Presumably the RAM has to go in the red slots or the red slots? No DFI-like differences between slots, no?

And BTW kiwi, HellBender >> Manta.

Ha! That's why the Grouper used to come with nice informative stickers like this:

When i broke 1600 htt i was using 1.4v nb, 1.4v HT link, 0p and 0n drive strengths and a 100mhz ram divider....otherwise all those settings are just what i posted.

I think 1700ht will be possible once i figure out some moe things....it will take a few days though so bear with me.
