Yeah, well I also have the older rev of the Ultra-D, but that probably dosn't mean much.

Life is too short to be bound by the moral, ethical and legal constraints imposed on us by modern day society.
but I am seen at others forums the 170 vpmw not doing as well as 165vpmw(also the 165 either does great or "craps" out around 2700)Originally Posted by tzitzos
it does appear IMHO the a good 0550 vpmw is probably a little better than good upmw(at least for a 165)
But w/ air cooling I still think overall the 170 upmw does better..alot the 3Ghz(vpmw) are being done on NON air cooling..there are 2-3 I have seen at 3Ghz or close on air
Problem is (and I am guilty of this I see a few great chips around and they are posted at alot forums) and I "assume" I should get this as well..in my hands for whatever reason I always do less well than alot of people..poor tweaking of ram??, living in FL who knows
Look at my sig..I have a "ok" 0546 xpmw@2.7 1.5v..so what did I do..I am getting a 170 UPMW..I hope to get a 434L..even if I get so lucky..I will probably still never get a dream chip
I just sold a 165@2.6..0534 mpmw...I am waiting to see how the new owner does....he will probably get 2700+ ..LOL

Dual Primes 2730 1.52 on decent custom wc which is mediocre. Can do 2800 stable with 1.6 havent checked prime up there yet(still cold-hot ambient till spring hits)
Although i d like to test it on phase.Other marks is needs errata ON (possible cache controller sux) and the following screen which might make u wanna reconsider if your are on air.i havent tried it on air cooling and would think really to :P.
still not sure what that means with regards to -9 on temps....Originally Posted by Hellion

OK..I am going to say uncle and once again missed the better stepping
it now looks as more reports are here and elsewhere the
170 0550 VPMW is better for having a chance at 2.9-3.0ghz at a low vcore even on air
looks like 50XX substrate are best???
Of course I was able to get my hands on a 170 0550 upmw 434L substrate..I hope it deos better than my 0546 xpmw or at least as well on lower vcore....

I am getting the same 0550 UPMW Opteron 170 434L and was wondering how this CPU compared to others you have tried?
Also, what overclock you have accomplished on air - what vcore, temps etc..
Let me know.
Trying to decide whether to keep 0550 UPMW (unopened) or 0550 VPMW I have on order. If I knew the VPMW was going to be better for sure I wouldn't even bother opening and trying the UPMW 434L.
i'd say, wait for VPMW - even if you will not be able to achive 3ghz, it will run 2.8/2.9ghz with much less volts than upmw .. i had 3 upmw's (all 434L), the best one was doing 2.85ghz with 1.55V .. now i have 3 vpmw's and one is doing 3gz@1.48V, and 2 of them are doing 2.9ghz with 1.4V .. btw, you can still open the box in the way it can't been seen it was opend (be careful with the sticker) ..Originally Posted by ablatt
