    Yes it works(upto 10%).
Yes there is a benifit (upto 10%)

You would get much better results by using the bios to overclock though. Takes time but its much more satisfying.

Thanks. I plan on tweaking things in the Bios eventually - just wanted to know if setting things to auto was worthwhile as an intermediate step.

'Cause it's going to take a bit more reading for me to get comfortable oc'ing this board. My present (now disassembled machine) was a P4 system (Asus P4S8X). The oc'ing options are a lot different with the AMD systems.

    Thanks again.

Auto can be a bit slack - you can tighten just about all auto settings on this board. It gave me ram timings of 3-5-5-10 once where the ram was good for 3-3-2-7 on manual. YMMV.

    Thanks.

My machine is up and running. No problems at all. Windows installed smoothly (although I must remember next time to do a "Quick format" instead of the full format ).

There was no problem recognizing the NVidia SATA connected drive. Great tip from somewhere (this thread?) to use a nLite slipstream CD with the 6.85 "legacy" drivers.

And all of the "!" marks in the device manager have now been eliminated. And all the Windows Updates and X2 and Windows Dual Core patches applied.

So now that I've run Stress Prime overnight on both cores - and had no errors - It's time to start tweeking. Just as soon as I run a 3DMark05 benchmark to get a baseline.

    So far, so good.

So thanks to all the folks here for the suggestions.

Does this mean Asus are now 'officially' supporting Opterons?

It gives (or gave) a list of CPU's and which bios to flash to incase of incompatibility problems.

All the opterons were showing to use from 703 to 1009 bios. This got me thinking that this board 'officially' supports AMD opterons if they are providing info like this. If I can find the page again I'll post a SS.
