    Question Got some Prescott

I`ve bought this CPU for ~30$.

The man I bought it from said that it isn`t workable so I decided to make a brinket out of it. But before digging a hole in it I decided to test if it is really unworkable.
And, guess what, it`s not. Although it is able to start Windows, it is not benchable at default freq.
But, MAN, it is one overclockable CPU.
On stock volts it started Windows at 4275MHz.
    On increased voltage - 4723MHz !
But it`s not even the best thing about it.
    IT HAS UNLOCKED MULTIPLIER !

You know, I don`t want to do a brinket out of it anymore ...

Need something other than CPU-Z shots to make this thread worth while.

    Pi, 3d, pifast, ANYTHING...

I have tried to run SuperPi 4M at 3000MHz.
    Both times the system freezed.
If it not capable of SuperPi it will not definetly run 3DMark or Prime.
It even needs at least two attempts to start Windows.

    Hey, bro, great found there.
Try to play with multiplers and voltages, maybe you'll get some stable freq.
Still funny, this chip can do 4.7Ghz SS, but cant bench even on stock.

    possibly similar to a trinket?

Anyway tbh just put it under something chilly, get a high SS then make it into a brinkiet or whatever else you got planned. If it can't even run windows without a fight then it is somewhat useless, surely?

    Default volts aren't 1.1V for prescott. It's 1.35 I thought.

    Holy !
    Amazing CPU
You should definitely play with voltage and clocks, maybe ypu get it stable.
This CPu must be the best DO ever.
What Cooling are you using @4,7Ghz?

Thats a dam nice chip!, I picked up a second hand 3.2 that will do 4.5 up on ss, i only planned on using it for a folding rig but now its my primary chip gaming chip until I buy the fx60. Nice find mate just shows that some of the older gear can still perform quite will especially at that price. Try and get up some benches though as im sure with a bit of tweaking you should be able to get it stable.

BTW theres a new word on the WIKI

    Benchable !

Am I the only one here that doesn't know what a "brinket" is?
As I can remember "brinket" is a thing that you attach for your carkey and carry it around.
What Cooling are you using @4,7Ghz?
    Titan Siberia (air cooling)

Hurra ! I finally got is benchable !
But it is only benchable @ 2.3GHz
But I have added some the Dry Ice and the result is ....

    5371MHz (suicide shot)

    System:
    MB: ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe
    RAM: HyperX3200 FSB:RAM=3:2
    PowerSupply: Q-Tec 500W
    OS: WinXP SP2

With special thanks to BiZaZ: who has kindly presented me with tube and dry ice

It`s not really THAT bad. I measured it - it`s 411W. (not bad)

are your voltages stable i.e. the p4c is renowned for have a problem with core voltage droop under load or is it voltmodded e.g mine is set to run at 1.6volts but while under continuous load droops to 1.47volts and thats on a pc power & cooling 510W which is a damn good psu (cant be bothered to mod the board as it's usually folding)

It`s true. I set is BIOS 1.7125v and CPU-Z shows that is 1.664v
It`s a problem of a Prescott core: you set one voltage - cpu-z shows the other that is lower.

Its possible that this is part of the stability problem, i've been able to suicide up to over 4.6 but the minute any load is put on the processor the voltage droop on the core causes the machine to hang. In theory, with a droop mod, you could go higher and stay stable. Still a damn good result though.

I can buy a Sl7E4 for 130 Euro, but I am not sure if all Sl7E4 clock so good.
    What do you think?
Because it is only a DO, and no EO...
