Help needed with a few problems!!!

Hello,
I am having some problems with my computer since my latest component upgrade. The main issues are Sound issues, Battlefield 2 (sound and video), other games, and DVD Playback. The issues have occurred since I installed these new components:

Sound Card Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum Pro
LCD Monitor : Dell 30" 3007WFP UltraSharp LCD Monitor,
Video Card : eVGA 256MB 6600GT 256-P2-N420-AX.

Just in case, here are the other components in my computer:

Motherboard : DFI LANPARTY nF4 SLI-DR (BIOS = 623-2)
CPU : AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ OCed @ 2.4GHz Stable
RAM : OCZ Platinum 2GB Dual Channell PC 3200
Video Card : eVGA 256MB 6600GT 256-P2-N420-AX *Temporary Hold-Over Card, waiting for G80*
Sound Card : Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum Pro
LCD Monitor : Dell 30" 3007WFP UltraSharp LCD Monitor
Hard Drives : 2x Western Digital Raptor 73GB 10,000 RPM RAID-0, and 2x Western Digital Caviar 320GB SATA II w/16MB's of Cache RAID-0
PSU : PC Power & Cooling Turbo-Cool 850 SSI (850 Watt)
Case : Mountain Mods U2-UFO Opti-1203, Original Top, Brushed Aluminum with eight 120mm fan's
Speakers : Logitech Z-5500 5.1 with Digital Hardware Decoder 505 Watts
Optical Drives : Plextor 52x32x52 CD-RW, and Plextor 16X Double Layer DVD±RW, and LG DVD±RW
Mouse : Logitech G7 Cordless Gaming Mouse


So, to start, the main issue that is plaguing me, is BattleField 2. Since I installed the new hardware, I have run into three problems, and what I have tried has failed to fix the problems.
1. When I open BattleField 2, it starts normally, the screen goes black for a second or two, but then, before the EA Games Logo comes up (The one that says “EA Games: Challenge Everything�), it goes right back to the desktop. No logo, no sound changes, just crashes right to the desktop. I have tried starting BF2 on all the resolutions I can, 800*600, 1024*768, 1280*800, 1600*900, and finally, 2560*1600. It does the same exact thing for every different way I try.
Just to check up on it, I turned the computer off, and put in my old, 15� LCD Monitor, a 1024*768 monitor, booted up, and opened BattleField 2, not a single problem. This leads me to my 2nd queery.
2.I got a new sound card, the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Elite Pro (the top-of-the-line model), and when I start BF2 on the crappy monitor (just when I was checking, as you read above), and attempt to put the Sound Device to “X-Fi� and quality to “Ultra High�, and hit apply, it first minimizes the game, so I click the icon, and it opens. Then I see that the audio changes have not been applied, so I hit apply again, and this time (I have tried more than once), it doesn’t minimize the game, but gives me an error stating something about my Audio Device not being able to handle that, and that I should reset the sound settings, and then try again. I tried again, to no avail, so then I uninstalled, and reinstalled the drivers, I didn’t change a single setting, but the same error occurred.

Now for the second issue, other games… The prime example is Call of Duty (original),when I try to play it maximized/full screen, it doesn’t fit the screen, it doesn’t stretch the pixels to fit. I can run it at 2048x1536, and that’s OK, but I would prefer to run it, AND ALL OTHER GAMES, at that resolution, or lower, but so they stretch to fix the whole screen.

The final problem, is DVD playback. On the left of the screen, the video is cut off. I know this is either a problem with the decoding software, or the resolution of the DVD being played. Any idea on how to fix this??

Just lock the Native Gaming Screen size to 1024x768
That sound card has alot of driver issues.. You'll have to download and use Modded Drivers if you want uber sound quality

i think your video problem might just be that your pushing a 30" monitor with a 6600GT...its like trying to hold a brick at the end of a feather

How do I lock it? And would that lock be application sensitive (BF2 for example), or something else?

Sooooo... modded drivers? more info?

IYP, why do you say its because the screen is so big? at any resolution, BF2 does not start.... and besides, the 6600Gt is designed to support this monitor... I promise you nothing will change to fix these problems with a new video card.

the part about it going fine with the 15" monitor led me to belive the 30' monitor was overloading something

but when I dropped the resolution down to 800x600, then 1024*768... same thing... it crashed.
I think it could be something to do with the video card drivers... but the ones that "have support" for the 3007 don't support my card properly... ie. dual link DVI on my 6600GT doesn't function

imma try those beta drivers, and see if it will play at 1200*800.... that can help narrow some stuff down

theres so much information on both of these problems if you just do a simple search bro. I had the exact same problems... both were solved by a couple of simple downloads....

for the resolution issue and BF2 crashing back to the desktop you need to get the program "game resolution switcher" which will force BF2 to start at any resolution you want. Only problem.... BF2 does NOT support 16:9 or 16:10 aspect ratios... so it will stretch it. Its not bad, but its definately not as pretty as it should be on such a top end monitor. EA should fix that shiet immediately.... but its been goin on for months, so whatever.

The sound issue... you need to download a patch for some stupid driver and it'll work fine. Do a google, you'll find it.

i can help with the bf2 problems.
its not your video drivers its bf2 itself.
it reads your monitor data off the monitor and then decides what res and refresh rate you can run and while detecting yours it s on itself because the program is badly coded lol
did the same thing on my friends lcd even tho its just a regular 19 inch

so the fix is to modify the bf2 shortcut target in properties like this

"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 2560 +szy 1600

then it should work!! ofcourse make sure your path is correct tho i just put the default for you.

btw this is not my find i got it from this site which could potentially help you with alot of games widescreen or not it shows how to force resolutions to work!

I already tried that. It works, WHEN UNPATCHED. I am hoping that with the next patch that arrives in Febuary, will be support for widescreen, or at least make it work like that again.

did you properly install the sound card? ie remove all previous sound drivers disable any onboard and do a fresh install from the drivers @ us.creative.com

yes, I did do that type of install, I am not a noob. what I didn't do, was install all of creatives crappy sofware like mediasource.

by the way, I think I have gotten BF2 to work PATCHED, but I am not sure, I will check later to make sure, thanks a LOT for that link BrandinB
