I wondered the same thing. I even left the price list page open last so I could compare. Looks like most 100 Opterons are the same.

Hi ....
AMD Distributors here in Germany have definately higher Prices than stated on the amd.com page. I talked with 2 today - both confirmed raised Opteron 1xx prices (biggest move up: 146).
Anyway - as Example - the X2 price drop was "known" around the 10th of January - AMD updated the Page Jan 23rd. So maybe the amd.com page is just a few days behind the actual info the distributors have![]()

Check out monarch
The 148 OEM went from 207 to 261, the retail went up 30$, and the 144 is no longer listed.
ZZF and newegg don't even list most of them anymore.

It has come to my knowledge today, that one customer at Sweclockers,
that ordered the processor in December 2005.
Were rejected to buy one opteron 146.

man, this must be an issue with amd's demand...
with all the rumors about amd being sold out, maybe they are getting a stockpile of ####+ chips while barely being able to keep opterons in stock.
It would be understandable because im sure the demand for opties is crazy considering how bad they spank intel in the server market. Not only that, ever since we discovered the opties i bet there was a large and unforseeable demand shift away from desktop cpu's and towards opties.
so what im saying is, i bet amd couldnt keep opties in stock for the people who actually need them, and supply and demand being what it is, they raised the price up to control the quantities. Meanwhile, demand has dropped for the desktop cpu's, so they drop the prices of those down a little bit.
Makes sense to me, AMD isnt trying to make it hard for the enthusiast, they are struggling to keep things stocked![]()
