    S754 Venice AIK4BX CBBWE 0542DAD

    Hello,

After a disaster with my LBAZC Newcastle I had to buy a new CPU. Being kinda broke i opted for the 3000+ thinking i was getting an older claw...When I came home and poped it into my DFI LAnparty Nf3, CPU-z didnt recognize it...i was stumped but a quick update fixed it...Howver it said 90nm and Venice...!?!? and was running at 1.4 v after a quick browse over the internet i saw that it actually is a venice.

Managed to get it up to 2863@1.52v with my Coolermaster Hyper-6 (WC being upgraded), which isnt bad for a quick test. Guess these 754 venices arent bad at all

I love it when AMD says oh, we are going to discontinue creating new cores on a given socket, then BOOM out they come. Anyone remember the 2.4ghz Athlon XP HP special???

Wow even China can produce nice cpu's
It is from china isn't it ? China CPU's always have weird weeksteppings. Three instead of four characters.

Hello, thanks for the replys, dry ice should be coming some time after new years. Going away tommorow to snowboard, so OC/ing is pretty much out of the questions unless i manage to get my lazy ass to the industrial store to buy some and end up benching tonight... not much chance of the happenin, goin out for dinner and then prlly to the club...

I to want to see these on dry ice, and lets gope theres no cold bug. I think that with a steady increase of voltage can get me 3ghz air, but ill see..

    Update/revival

Well, after using the system as my 24/7 rig for a couple of weeks now i decided to try oc-ing it a bit more.

    This is what i got too, 2960@10x296... 1.600 v

To be honest i thought that this CPU would scale a bit better, because the ambient temperature was -4 degrees C.

I got the proc past 3gHz however i was only able to make a validation file which in the end was not authorized...WTF?

I think s754 Venices have problems being authorized, or cant even be authorized in CPU-Z 1.31.

I was also looking through the Fab51 site and stumbled upon this http://fab51.com/cpu/guide/opn-s754.html it seems that we should be expecting s754 San Diego's!?!?!?! in the form of 3700+ s754 cpus.

Well this is the end of my rant,

    Thanks

Installed mine last night. It's pretty good, maybe not as clockable as I'd hoped but games nicely at 2550. Might do more if I tweak the memory, perhaps.

Serial ends 0094. Also, "Assembled in Malaysia".

I had thought that the RAM was pretty shot; with the Claw it struggled to do 3-3-3-8 at DDR400. Yet with this chip, it's happily running 2.5-3-3-7 at DDR434. Nice!

yeah, memory controllers improved a lot since the time of Clawhammers...

IIRC you posted your stepping in another thread couple of weeks ago, when you just got it, right?

yours is the first Malay s754 Venice that i heard of... every other i saw was "assembled in China".

Hmmm, gotta say I'm not all that impressed by these, when the Sempron64's overclock better, and are cheaper. My 3000+ Sempy hit 2.95GHz on ambient air,and my 2800+ hits 2.6GHz on stock volts, and is only limited by my crappy oc'ing mobo (max HTT is 333-336).

    ccbwe? Isnt that disabled DC?

Either way, stepping makes no sense
In short, both AMD and NVIDIA discovered that their next-generation graphics cards are superior to each others' last-generation graphics cards.

For an E6 Venice, 2.6 GHz is not at all bad. They're not like the E3 steppings at all.

I ought to add that the mobo is limiting vcore to 1.44v - what would it do at 1.55 to 1.6?

    some more

did some benching with the venice, managed a SuperPI 1mb at 2800 mhz, its on my 24/7 rig so no optimizations at all (slow time).

BTW: I am having this strange problem with my CPU-Z, if i run clockgen or one of the benching programs and then try to run CPU-z it gives me some random error about not being to open the driver...

You will see the symtoms of this error as the only thing showing up is CPU frequency...

    3ghz on cold air :D

Well i got 9x335 at 1.65 v. this cpu isnt bad considering what i had to go through with my nc to get close to 3ghz. The temp was around -8c so nothing extreme. It was semi stable, however the ram had to be kept on a 1/2 divider...

hmm, it seems to be a current s754 venice wr?! its higher than bloodmax...

I think this venice is limited by the mobo. I'll try one on mine soon enough. They are just enhanced sempron 64 cores with out all the stuffing riped out of them and with better construction such as core and memory controler and everything enabled. They should perform better then the semprons. On the right mobo.

Is there a large difference in overclock between the E3/E6 venice cores?

Ah, ok, but for 754 it's negligible. Which are generally preferred? I did a search but I couldn't find anything.

i wish they would use 1 meg L2 cahces in every chip cept the sempron.. i think tis time they move away from that stupid 512 cache.

that being said i still miss my 754 CG Clawhammer,, way better performing than my venice, dont know how or why but i swear to god i got better performance with my clawhammer at 2.55ghz running single channel ram than i did with my venice running dual channel @ 2.85ghz.

gaming wise im pretty sure of it but cant be sure... but i miss the 1 meg L2

nice to see those little 754's still kicking tail!!
