    Notice:

I advice people who are not using a English WinXP installation to e-mail MS personally and receive the hotfix. I did that and they sent me a newly uploaded hotfix which they uploaded on their website and when they saw that I had downloaded it, they deleted it right away. Probably to prevent leeching.

Here is what they told me in regards to this fix:

    Hi Franz,

The hotfix has not been made publicly available because it has not been fully tested and we are not sure if it causes more issues. That is why this hotfix should only be installed if you have the issue. We also want to follow up on customers who install this fix so we know if there are any issues.

If you have any feedback regarding the case or the support in general, I would appreciate it if you could let us know.

A couple of questions I would like you to consider:

    * How did you experience the support?
    * Is there any particular issue that you found particularly troublesome/annoying?
    * What can we do better in future?

Happy New Year and thank you for contacting Microsoft.
So for localized and perhaps a newer version of this hotfix I suggest mailing Microsoft and ask them for a copy: msconusATmicrosoftDOTcom (AT=@, DOT=.)

Be sure to include this information when mailing them:

    HOT FIX:
    ===================================
    Operating system: WinXP Professional
    SP: Service Pack 2
Language: German (or whatever language your installation is)

Product for hot fix: (if it's different from OS) - or delete these three rows.
    SP: (if there is any)
    Language:

    Other:
    Hot Fix Qxxxxxx
    ==============================

    Hey..

I was wondering.. How can someone with the same motherboard and hardware as me NOT have problems with the X2 and I have them.. It can't be hardware related.. so its OS related.. they working on a fix for this ? Before I set the fix, installations of programs were corrupted, start menu flickered when you hit it, games constantly droped me (bf2) after an hour or so of game play. I patched, everything seems to have worked, but I don't know if I should just go back to my 3500+ from my 4400+. I don't see any real preformance gains.. all I see is still some weird performance issues even with the patch, but the patch fixed like 90% of all the problems. The only problem I see now is that I don't load as fast, and run games as fast and as "chop free" as before.

dont go back to the single core, if you did the patches and drivers as directed you won have any issues what so ever.

That sounds like something else entirely. Honestly, it sounds like heat/psu issue.

That what I thought but I Checked out everything. Only when I applied the fix, all these problems went away. I just put on a new thermaltake 120mm HSF.. if anything bios reported my temps lower than before..

I mean I thought that, but look how severe my problems were. I mean In my mind I have such severe underlying problems and its just buggin at me. Yeah I really dont wan't to go through all that again.. Do you have any idea when an integrated OS fix would come.. well sp3 .. ?

i think sp3 will have these fixes in it, but im not 100% sure on that, because not everyone uses dual core.

I'm into my third day with the X2 4400, I've installed the new drivers and did the hotfix. At first everything went fine (although I didn't run any games for more than an hour or so). Today I'm getting a single "beep" upon startup (from power being off but not on reset) and I crashed to the blue screen of death after playing COD2 for about 20 min (the comp had been on for a few hours however). Any ideas? Should I deleted the hotfix and reinstall or what? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

P.S. CnQ was disabled when I crashed

    I'm running:
    Abit Fatality AN8 SLI
    AMD X2 4400+
    2 gigs Corsair XMS
    ATI X800XT 256meg
    Win XP Home edition SP2

umm......the hotfix and drivers have nothing to do with yout bios beeping what so ever, as far as the Blue screen of death try uninstalling the hotfix and see if it happens again....then well take it from there.

Well I got rid of the hotfix and played for awhile yesterday with no problems but crashed to blue screen today after about 10min of play. So it seems to be kinda random. weird....will reinstall the hotfix and see if I still get problems.

make sure you edit the registry to enable the fix, also check your boot.ini see /usepmtimer is in it.

Wait, wait. I thought the fix was enabled by installing the hotfix?

Update: reinstalled hotfix and enabled it, also made sure I had /usepmtimer in my boot.ini I no longer am crashing to a blue screen but instead I occasionlly get freeze-ups in various different games. Is there anything else I can do? It seems most people's problems end upon enabling the hotfix...I wonder if I'm doing something incorrect? Followed the steps exactly....any insights would be well appreciated. Thanks in advance.
