AMD does not just do a major change like this without first watching the public's reaction to it in a preview... little meet and greet witht he press.
now why do I say that? ahhh that is an answer to your first question. the other forums I belong to are AMD and MS developer forums... and things are discussed in depth with the right people about products and dates. AMD's big reason for the move is NOT DDR2, but is infact Intel's move to DDR3. even IF AMD feels presure enough to release a DDR2 memory controller on thier chips they know the results. bad news to use something Intel is about to cast aside as a standard. DDR2 is no faster than DDR even though it's got higher frequencies. Poor latencies added to the higher COST (note not retail price) of DDR2 are making AMD forget about it as thier standard. DDR3 however is cheaper, faster AND will soon be the industry standard forced by Intel.... thus making it the smart choice for AMD to make.
