    He removed the stock fan and zip tied the Tornado to the heatsink itself. I think we'll try to zip tie it directly to the video card to help the VF700 make better contact. As is the VF700 can wiggle around more than he'd like.

    weird VF700CU on my X1800XT when i installed it didn't budge at all ... shame it lowered my clocks so went back to stock X1800XT heatsink

    changed ram to BH-5 and gained a few pts

    The next step......

    Scary stuff... it's my first time ever water cooling a video card

    I probably put off GPU water cooling for numerous reasons one being i can't volt mod if my life depended on it and straight water cooling for stock volt cards don't bring much gain. But along comes HIS X1800XT with software adjustable voltage for GPU and mem

    I'm using the following:
    • Dangerden Acetal Maze4 Low Profile water block with 1/2" barbs
    • Swiftech MCP655 pump
    • Radiical.com.au Ultra triple fan single pass radiator
    • 3x Xinruilian RDL1225S 120 mm fans (28dba/1700rpm/71cfm) pulling
    • Clearflex 1/2" tubing
    • Radiical Brass T-line piece
    • Nulon Ultracool Green coolant mixed in ratio 1:10 with distilled water
    • Kayl's custom 100W psu with auto startup wire to power MCP655 and fans

    I originally wanted to use my MCP600 pump but that went down the sink read http://i4memory.com/showthread.php?t=2048 :heh:

    Pictures:
    There aren't any right now because the gear is placed in my utility trolley's 2nd tray pictured here http://www.fileshosts.com/DFI/NF4_SL...n_cooled/html/. Due to the placement of gear, you wont get any clear pictures of the gear once it's installed and I didn't bother taking pics when installing. Will take some later if possible

    Here's Kayl's custom 100W psu i'm using - i'm using the one marked 13.81v which is the max adjustable 12V voltage i can set if needed

    Full pics of psus here http://www.fileshosts.com/watercooling/custompsu/html/

    Results:
    Nice and cool @625/750 stock 1.3v (disabled ATI CCC)

    GPU idle = 33C
    GPU environment = 30-31C

    GPU load = 37C
    GPU environment = 34-35C

    Post GPU load temps instantly drop to 33C

    I'm going to have some fun

    Well just prelim looping ATI Tool beta 11 'show 3d' stress test.

    oc'ing using ATI Tool beta 11 max = 762mhz at 1.45v and locks up higher

    but using good old method of X1800 Overclocking tool for clocking max i get so far is:

    GPU
    783mhz at 1.5v
    789mhz at 1.525v
    796mhz at 1.55v (gpu idle = 46-47C and gpu load = 51-52C)

    Mem
    seems to lost mem max of 909-936mhz with the puny Zalman ramsinks - past 769mhz GPU can't get mem past 873mhz ??????

    Tried upping and lowing mem volt doesn't seem to help ... SIOUX how ya manage 970-999mhz on mem ?

    I think i need some fan cooling over ramsinks to see if that helps

    edit: realised the 2x side 120x25mm 71cfm fans were turned off so no additional air flow was happening - turn them on and bam mem @920mhz and rising so far

    Good choice of cooling, looking forward to seeing some more results

    I guess you running two seperate water systems? As the tubing difference is huge from the CPU and GPU blocks. Also why the extra power supplys?

    Nice temp at load. Some colder air/water might help, big diff in idle temp in Sioux's screen.

    yeah idle temps aren't as cool as SIOUX he has 13-18C room ambients while my room is 28-31C room ambient with 1HP portable air con on LOL

    Yup separate loops Corsair Hydrocool 200EX 1/4" tube for cpu and separate DIY loop for X1800XT heh

    Extra psu is it can adjust 12v voltage to 13.81v for overvolting the pump for more pressure/flow = better performance that i had in mind for MCP600 pump but as in first post, the MCP600 went down the sink heh so changed to MCP655 which doesn't need that much overvolting at all so have it at 12.18v

    nothing like competition to motivate a person to aim higher

    Hmmm guess i'm CPU limited for now... will clock ram higher and see how it helps but for 3dmark05 won't do much heh

    Unhappy with the mem clocks with the puny Zalman ramsinks, i swapped 5 of the pieces over to some BGA copper monster ramsinks - these are huge @20x20x15mm !

    Those BGA copper sinks should help out.

    I can see you doing 12K very soon eva.

    i think i need more on cpu for 12k heh

    But just did a run at 797/936 1.55v gpu and seems my gpu idle temp dropped 2-3C and load temps dropped 1-2C to just 49.5C max load according to rivatuner

    IMO, the fin density on those coppe ramsinks is much too high. You woud need tons of CFM to actually get enough air through them to make them effective. As they are right now, they are essentially just copper bricks.

    A ramsink with 1/2 the fin density would allow for much better convection and would require a weaker fan to make them useful.

    I'll take a run for it in a week or so. I ordered a X1800XT and will put it on my maze4. Its not going to be long before my X2 goes on phase change. After the phase 12k should be doable unless the card doesn't OC well. Or I fry something Note that post phase change the video card is going to be the only thing water cooled so the temps should be fairly good.

    Update: Jan 6, 2006
    Roughly seems it scales as

    GPU
    1.425-1.45v = 756mhz
    1.475v = 762mhz
    1.5v = 783mhz
    1.525v = 789mhz
    1.55v = 796mhz
    1.575v = 803mhz

    Mem seems to have gone from
    2.097v = 909-936mhz
    1.933v = 945mhz
    1.949v = 954mhz
    1.955-1.965v = 963mhz
    1.979-1.987v = 972mhz with slight artifact in 3dmark05 GT3

    To give you an idea of power draw at load for

    Opteron 170 @2950mhz at 1.62v
    Corsair Hydrocool 200EX
    HIS X1800XT @803/972 1.575v/1.985v
    4x 80GB Hitachi 7K80 SATA II raid 0
    1x 250GB Maxtor Maxline Plus2 PATA

    3dmark05 load = 580W

    Load includes
    - 61W from BenQ FP2091 + BenQ FP91G LCD monitors
    - 34W from MCP655 pump + 5x 120x25mm fans + dual LCD monitor probe
    - ~14W Corsair Hydrocool 200EX
    - 580W - 104W = 476W for system at load

    And so far 11,852 3dmark05!
