AMD 182 = No more OEM

I bought an OEM CABNE 150 new from a private party and now it is an AMD 182. This is only the second OEM I have ever bought and will never buy another. If this was a retail, I would not be out $420. Not sure why it lost it's mind but it sure has. I'm not blaming anyone but I am just saying I will never buy an OEM again.

It dropped down from a 12x to 11x and went to 256 KB L2 Cache.

If any of you are a cpu shrink, maybe you can bring it back to it's senses.

Holy . Techically, a 182 would be a VERY fast single-core model. Can I see CPU-Z? Is it still stable?

I just put it back in a mb tonight to take the ss I posted and have not messed with it at all. I just thought I'd try to oc it and see if it would. When I first got it, as it's life as a 150, on my Koolance2 at stock it would run in the low 40's. Now oc'ed to 2600 from 11x200 it will do prime at 39-40c.

Does the 256 L2 make the difference or the x changing from 12 to 11 or what? Any ideas?

You bought a 150 and when you tried to use it it shows as a 182 with small cache? Or did it work fine before and suddenly lost its mind? You should either RMA the chip or have a long talk/replacement with your supplier. If you paid for a 150 then don't settle for anything less.

It's an OEM there is no warranty

L2 cache size shouldn't make a difference in terms of power consumption. Push it all the way, and remember: you will be setting a world record either way! I don't think there is another chip like that

I think this is very similar to the people who recieved unlocks randomly. I doubt it's any sort of scam.

I am not sure... Is the performance about the same as it was before? (It should be, since K8 doesn't depend THAT much on L2 size)

wasnt saying it was a scam im just throwing up ideas, I have never even heard of a cpu losing a multi and half its cache, maybe a sign of it dying?

OEM sucks for this matter, maybe its just reporting badly

I never thought it was a scam. It did start out as a 150 when I first got it. No high vcore was given by me. On my koolance2 it was just too hot to give a lot. I can't understand L2 getting cut 3/4 of what it was. I also can not understand the name change.

I can understand the unlocks that a few have gotten. On unlocks though, nothing changes except the x is unlocked. The L2 doesn't change.

Been there, done that. I talked to AMD and they do if the resaler buys them thru an AMD distributor. If they are gray market, they don't.

My old athlon xp mobile 2600+ lost 75 percent of its cache and the ability to change multipliers Got locked in 22 x. Still works though 22 x 100 fsb 64kb cache lol.

Anyway the cause of that was from heat or a slight crack in the core not sure which but it happend when i was mounting a vapochill.

When I got home today I wanted to see if the change in the multi hurt the cpu any. I picked 2800, don't know why, to try and prime it. I couldn't stand being on my notebook much more so here is 2 hours of large prime. I don't like being reminded of the thing so off to the fs section it will go. 182 for 182.

The registers where the chips are programmed after selection (to say what they are designated and sold as) can be fragile. Obviously you flipped a few bits.

I wouldn't worry, the cache isn't too much of a big deal and neither is the multiplier if your board can go high enough HTT.
