    Help! Overclocking Killing DialUp Connection!

System as shown in sig. so far, I have had it HotCPU stable to 178FSB x 13, or about 2.314GHz. However, overclocking is killing my dialup connection. It never actually physically drops, but it is getting nailed at the TCP or IP layer. I am noticing Receive errors if I look at the connection status, and I become unable to get mail or surf. Once I reboot and take the system back to stock speeds, I can surf all day long, no troubles.

Oh, I am using an external USR 56K modem on COM1, and get a good connection almost always 53.2K.

Any ideas as to where to start in sorting this out? I can run stock speeds if I have to, but my CPU seems to be a pretty good one. I tested at 171 x 13 at 1.65v and it passes HotCPU. At 178FSB I only had to jump to 1.7V to get it to run HotCPU.
    Main System:
    EPoX EP-8K5A3+ Mobo
    Athlon XP2100+ TBRED AIUHB 0304 (171 x 13); Thermalright SK7 / TT Smartfan II
    1G Crucial PC2700 DDR
    2x 80G WD SE 8Meg Cache
    52X CD; 24x12x40 Lite-On CDRW
    ATI Radeon 9500 PRO
    Antec SLK3700AMB case; stock fan
    Windows XP Home, SP1

maybe your devices cannot handle the high fsb speeds ... ???

in my old p3 system, i had a 600e at 900mhz, 150mhz FSB and my linksys nic couldnt handle the high pci bus speed

therefore i couldnt get a net connection, but when i lowered it to default, it worked

I would agree on the pci speed issue.

Yeah, I had a modem that did that, too.

Running an Intel V92 with ambient chipset now that works fine to 50mhz so far 8-)

How about 14x166FSB taking advantage of the 5:2:1 divider, yet still having a decent OC. Of course you'll most likely have to up the Vcore somewhat.
