    X550 Madness

    Look what we created:

This is a Sapphire X550 with 5ns memories, it´s our first attempt into dry ice in 3D so we chose a budget card. We benched at 850/250 and a Venice 3200+ @ 3100mhz. We could even through a suicide shot at 1400mhz (lol) and bench at 890mhz (1.9v in GPU).

Now we feel confident and should be benching some nice cards in the future.

    Greetings from Chile

NicoZ (The voltmod & VGA guy)

is that your top score in 01 at 850 core? and did you say you have a SS of an X550 @ 1.4ghz?

if so that score is low, and that is nuts!
Microsoft's homepage can be found at: thesource-dot-ofallevil-dot-com - interesting, no?

Yes the problem is this card has 5ns memories, so we couldn´t make it over 240-250 mhz. And the low frequency memory gives a huge bottleneck. We are not sure if trying with a 3.3ns card, because there seems to be no real competition in the X550/X300 series. We should give a try to the 6600GTs now.

Yes we have a SS at 1400mhz on the core, we even have a picture.

    Oh great

I´ll tell my buddy to post the SS and picture... They are in his computer.

BTW Nico, the voltmod guy wants to swap the VGA´s memory modules for 3.3ns chips. I know this has been done in BGA, but I think this would be quite imposible with TSOP right?

I have a 9550 currently, and I am in no way near your clockspeed lol. But I have stock.

Also, the reason it has such a low score on 01, because it is memory banwidth dependant. Try 3dmark03-05, and you see a huge difference

We benched with 3DMark03 and 05. The problem is that today was quite a hot day and we where benching live at a retail store and things started to get quite messy with condensation over the motherboard, so we swaped to air cooling and didnt want to stress the motherboard so just benched with CPU at 2500mhz

We don´t have screenshot of 05 because we just used it to try stability. We had 2300 3D05s with the processor at 2670mhz.

We want to definitely give X550 another run. Maybe try a new model with 3.3ns memory and use another platform. Opteron 148 should arrive in 20 days and we are also testing a P4 670. Maybe X550 trifecta

yeah, with better memory an X550 should scale like a X600XT or 9600XT or a 9550, I think that they are all pretty much the same core.

It was a nice day but the wheather wasnt nice (30-35°C), the vga mobo and cpu were almost dead at one point

hopefully the 670 es and the 148 opteron can run higher than my cpu.

we might have to call some hw manufacturers to get a review sample that we could bench later

    p.d. a 7800gtx 512 + 670 es would be quite a nice rig to test

I was thinking that yesterday, and as long as we do it live at a retail store they will give us the card.

    Sapphire Radeon X1300PRO 16x 256mb

    This has 2.5ns memory right?

At 850Mhz you should have a much higher '01 score...even with the mem at 250Mhz. After the little X300 competition Zakelwe and I had I feel confident in saying that.....
Perhaps the reported gpu speed was not correct.

thats right we were told that we would bench super pi 1m 3dmark03 and 3dmark05, so i just tweaked win xp regularly for good performance but nothing to extreme, with win2000 dx8 and proper drivers + tweaks for 3dmark01 score would have been much higher

As Metro said, home made. But home made by this guy, Dr. Cooling , he ships internationally. Anyways this was his first attempt on a VGA tube, his CPU tubes are really nice, but this one is still a prototype.
