    Talking EPoX EP-8RGA+

I thought you guys might be interested in my results with a 8RGA

I bought it retail in the UK its a Rev 0.6 and it does have
Vdd in BIOS - 1.6V/1.8V/2.0V and it has the 4pin ATX+ P4 connector.

The rails on my board do not drop under load or high v-core, it a bit odd to see this at 1st.

    XP 1800 T-Bred "A"
    2 x Corsair XMS 3500's
    GF2 Ultra
    Cooled by a Prommie.

    The good bits

Stable at 215 FSB without any modding

    which gives nice memory bandwidth

    Bad bits

At high V-core 2.0 ish, my board will not reboot out of bios, needs a restart, this maybe a lack of power issue with my Sparkle 300W, its not the prommie as I tried without the reset wire attached.

I have trouble with overclocking when using the on- board GFX, although I never tried very hard to solve this problem.

Also although I have refitted the head on the prommie twice, adding washers, the temps seem high, so maybe inaccurate

EDIT I did a 3DMark also to help prove its stable http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=6004014

Thats nothing special. What cooling do you have on your NB ? Mike's NF7-S is stable at 225 with 1.7 VDD!

    Try to cool the NB
i use 1.92v to go 233 Dual channel on 8RDA with NB 5x5 sink aircooled

If not.. maybe 8RGA doesn't reach the same fsb of 8rda cause of the chipset

Never claimed it was special I just thought you maybe interested in my results with a 8RGA at a stable speed, without any mods, bar a liitle fan

It has a 60 mm YS-Tech on the standard Heatsink, as there is very little air flow in the prommie case.

I will drop the mem timings and see what it will do then

M@tt, i've got a question that relates to this board, but not overclocking.

can you use the onboard video if you have an AGP card installed as well?

    thanks

    Hello felix

No it does not look like you can, but the on-board GFX does have two VGA outputs for I guess two monitors if required.

hmm, thats too bad. from what i've read, the Nforce2 chipset supports dual AGP ports. if this is true it should be possable to run an AGP card and use the onboard graphics. maybe the dual AGP port thing i read about was incorrect.

    thanks M@tt.

    I had a 8rga+ to 220fsb 1.8vdd running memory async and a duron.

not much of an OC test but it seems like a good board.

I could run 2.2vcore ok but on a duron thats not much of a test but it was all I had at the time.

Let us know how you get on M@tt.

    wheres the 8RGA in america?

"The command and conquer model," said the EA CEO, "doesn't work. If you think you're going to buy a developer and put your name on the label... you're making a profound mistake."

Hehe i meant no offense Its just that the VDD adjustments were supposed to do wonders for the NF2 boards

Actually, it's NOT true with 3D - read page #3 and you will see he (Mike) can't run 3dmark without dropping the fsb @ 204 - so this is not 3D stable comparing to his here running 3dmark @ 215fsb...

    No problem DuraN

    The Board came from OCS

Despite my best efforts, trying loads of things I only got one more FSB 3DMark and full prime test stable

So at the moment 216 is it. It has run under load at 216 x 11 2375Mhz over night

    A couple of odd things

At anything above 1.975 V-Core, after a while on load its as though someone pressed the reset button and then holds it in, I have to power on and off to get back into bios. FF shows on the display.

If I lower the mem timings to say 7-3-3-2 it becomes less stable at high FSB's compared to 5-2-2-2

Its happy as Larry at 5-2-2-2 or even 4-2-2-2

But overall I am pleased with the board, I just need a better chip now

Hey Matt congrats on the new board, have you taken the NB heatsink off yet ? I'm currious about the NB stepping and manufacture date.

    Hello Major Slaughter

No sorry, in my haste to get it going I never removed the heatsink which I normally do, to replace the compound with As3. It's fitted in a Prometeia so it will have to wait until I take it to bits in a week or so.

Just a note to keep the info correct Later in the thread my results were further updated.

After cutting the bridge on the XP 2700 it now runs stable 3D at 225mhz 8,4,4 2.5 or 220mhz with 7,3,3 2

Still no mods to the board running 1.7vdd.

Just a little update from me

Its now 3D stable at 219 fsb
    http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=6033311 mem timings at 3-2-2-2

I have fitted a XP1700 "B" which loves V-Core, running at 2.20 without any problems

    It has a submitted seti benchmarked @ 221 3-2-2-2

I was going for max Mhz here

    I am pleased with 2590 out of a XP1700
