Question Prescott Noob Playing with a 640

I'm playing with a Asus P5WD2 P and a 640. Right now I'm at 4ghz (16x250 - default voltages) and temps seemed a little low at just under 50c while Priming Blend. Then I started two instances of Prime (Large and Small) and it shot up to 58C and stayed there. This is with a Thermaltake BT. I normally OC AMDs so I don't have a reference point to work with since this is the first Prescott I've gotten my hands on. Unless someone tells me otherwise I'll assume thats a normal temp range.

BTW - This is not my rig so I can't take any chances with and won't move off default voltages. But I am curious what the max safe temp would be on this CPU?

i dont have any firsthand experiences with prescotts, but keep the load temp at or below the mid-60c range

Mid 60s. I guess I have a little more time left with my OC adventure with the 640 then. I'll post pics in about 5 hours.

Here are those pics I promised. I did these to get a rough idea of how the performance might scale.

    Had a 640 doing 4.16 at 64C under an XP-120, throttling at 4.20 and 68-69C.
Watercooled, it went to 4.45 rock-stable at 48C with dual-prime95. It would run upto 292 bus (4.65 GHz) but one P95 instance crashed with Vcore fluctuations at random times.
Also, PWM temps would go sky-high, aproaching 90C, even with Abit Fatal1ty's OTES running full speed and an extra 80mm fan blowing towards the area.

Gundamit what cooling are you useing on your 640, on stock air my 820 was in the 65-70c range on stock voltage. This is so damned hot compared to my nf2 that i've sort of ignored temps

Thermaltake Big Typhoon. S'funny how its been sitting in a box while I tested all my Opties on water and phase. I busted it out of the box because the rig I was testing already had a rear mounting plate from the the Big Water which is compatible. I'm impressed with the BT and I'm guessing thats its mild water cooling cousin the BW won't do much better holding the temps down.

Update on the OC adventure: At 4.2ghz and stock volts I could get 32M runs off but dual instances of Prime failed. Normally I would bump up the volts but its not my gear so intead I'm getting it ready to head back to its owner.
