X1800XT and NV Silencer 5 rev 3 (almost worked!)

    Hi guys,

I had the chance to get an NV Silencer 5 rev 3 from Arctic Cooling before retail. This new edition just adds compatibility to the GeForce 7800GT/GTX. It works great in my GT, but I was wondering if this would work in a Radeon X1800XT.

The best way to figure this out was trying to install it

As you can see it would work. The only problem is two ram chips dont get dissipation, this could be fixed by just adding a sink. Luckily the acrylic part that holds the 72mm fan doesnΒ΄t touch the thin large red power regulator sink.

    Greets

PD: Please forgive my english, itΒ΄s not my native language.

As long as you can install it with the standard holes and get some cooling for those ram chips you'll be fine I guess. With such expensive cards I wouldn't dare of doing something like drilling through the card.

Isn't the NV silencer for NVIDIA cards and the ati silencer for ATI cards? Why are the last 2 guys interested in the NV silencer for their x1800s?

I bought it for a 7800gt, but had an x1800xt on hand to try.

they're better off bare anyways if you're gonna be putting pads on them. Just have a fan blowing some air at the card.

Because the NV Silencer 5 rev.3 seems to almost fit the X1800XT.
There are no specific NV Silencer out for the X1800XT.

I'm looking at buying one of those for my X1900XT. That accelero thingy isn't what I want, I want a silencer (DHES is so much better). The mounting holes around the core are EXACTLY THE SAME on the X1800/X1900 series as on the 7800 series cards which is what led me to consider modding one of these.

Once I get some money and free time stay tuned for a modding project - if HIS won't sell me one of their IceQ 3 coolers then I'll make one myself
