    choice of opteron

found somewere that has various opterons in stock but dont know which to go for.

currently running a winnie @ 2700 so need something which will be quite a bit better then that. all steppings are unknown

    AMD Opteron 144, 1.8GHz, Socket 939, 1MB, BOXED w/fan £95

    AMD Opteron 148, 2.2GHz, Socket 939, 1MB, BOXED w/fan £170

    AMD Opteron 150, 2.4GHz, Socket 939, 1MB, BOXED w/fan £240

AMD Opteron 154, 2.8GHz, Socket 939, 1MB, BOXED w/fan £690 maybe not that one lol

    AMD Opteron 170, 2.0GHz, Socket 939, 2MB, BOXED w/fan £295

    AMD Opteron 175, 2.2GHz, Socket 939, 2MB, BOXED w/fan £350

im debating over the 150 or 170 not sure if i want to go dual core again , 150 looks good as i stand better chance of making 3g

im assuming there all multi locked or do some have unlocked multis?

The multis are all LOCKDED...you have unlocked multis just on FX CPU and XP-mobile. First of all you have to decide if you want an single core or dual core CPU! You have to tell us the steppings of this CPUs cause not all Opterons can reach 3ghz!

Good luck finding it. I say go with the dual core 165.

I think i've heard that the 0540 cabne opterons are not as good as the other CABNE, but in any case it will overclock a bunch, but I still say go for the dual core 165.

I think that this is how he knows http://www.trend4pc.de/media/products/AMD_Stepping.htm
this is the only vendor that publishes their steppings (in UK/Europe).
Would the CABGE 0536 VPMW be better ?

yea, those cabye's should be very nice overclockers. Buy both for the price of the 150
and keep the one that does the best.
