Hi, new to Xtreme been been lurking for quite sometime (takes forever to get the account active....).

I am planning to build a new pc, and the opty 175 is what I wanted. In Canada I've searched for 146,148,165,170 and 175 opty's. I found ONE place that has/had 3 opty 175's, and havn't found nothing else!

My 175 should be here by the end of the week. Can't test, but hoping for the CCBWE maybe?... My source will let me send it back if someone knows it's a bad stepping, but that is tough to say since not many people have a 175.

I will not be able to test until my new Mobo comes in, which won't be for 2-3 weeks

The opty 175 is skued if you search for it on insight.ca, but it does not show stock, though they did have 3 (not sure if it will show stock online... since they have lots of distributors... supposedly the opty 175 distributor was in Toronto, but they wouldn't tell me the name - though it was not a retail place anyways...)

I think most are CCBWE's. More likely the important factor to consider is the week. Some at OCAU with 0534SPMW's aren't doing nearly as well as what I've seen from 0530TPMW's. Let me know if you see information suggestiing otherwise.

That's my observations as well. 0530TPMW's are CABNE 0530 of the dual core world.. I don't think it is coincidence they were made same week... 0530

on a related note, i bought a 165 retail from mwave, but the order hasnt been approved because i messed up on billing address, but should be fixed soon.

can a 170 be ccbwe 0530? are you more likely to get a better chip with a retail box? i ask because monarchs 170 oem+3year warranty is almost the same price as mwaves 170 retail. also, do these opterons have more hypertransport links than the athlons? thanks.

quik question on buying one of these chips. what is everyone buying the OEM or the Retial? what should i get OEM or Retail im ordering from monarch computers the 170 model..

Always buy retail.. 3 years warranty plus you get like a $20 HSF you can sell. It's pretty nice with heat pipes and relativly quiet.

I ordered a 170 from monarch last night and it shipped today. I don't know about the 165s, but I didn't have any trouble. Well, the chip is getting here thursday, but I'm not going to have much chance to test it till next week! Tell you all about it then!

You can but you don't have to. I don't do it. It only lowers temps several degrees anyway.

im thinking of giving a dual core a try, not sure which to go for though, 165 is £230 & 170 is £300, is the 170 worth the extra or is the 165 clocking well?

Assuming your temps are low, you have some more head room voltage wise. I'd take it up as far as 1.55V so long as you are still getting more clockspeed. Mine starts getting crashy when I go too high, so I have a good feel when I need to back down.
