    ..it's FX....but it's not a CPU....let's rock the new GSkill TCCD kit !!!

    Hi everybody...

Topic title says all....but if you want to take a look at the mysterious modules on my test rig.....well...here's a shot..

Please pardon me for the bad quality...was out of focus...but I also thought it can even add a mystery veil on what I was testing right now...
For sure you're not interested in the Ps2 port or in the Xp90C heatpipe zoom...

First of all I have to say I'm very proud to have put my fingers on this dual channel kit from GSkill.

It's not first approach for me with GSkill, after I had the pleasure to reach the WR of Bachus_anonymous here in XS forum with my 325 mhz 2,5-4-4-8 on GSkill PC4800 LA.
But I really appreciate also the fact that after oct 11th when GSkill rep presented this:

    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums...ead.php?t=76543

only 2 wks passed by...and Perhaps there's only me in Italy to have the chance to rock the new GSkill products....I'll do my best...any suggestion is welcome ...

So...here we are....let's stop the chat and see what we have here.

First impression is a little strange...used to handle not dissipated modules from GS, here I'm in front of a heat sinked kit....that's new for GSkill but there's always explanation....

    *** Announcement ***

    - G.Skill designs new look for heatsink to celebrate the year anniversary -

    29 Aug 2005, Taipei

G.Skill is pround to celebrate his first milestone in Extreme Memory, 1st year anniversary. G.Skill add all new look heatsink to most memory modules since September 2005, the product serial number is 05/09. AS some users request, we will provide non-heatsink at the same time.

that's how they look like...from GSkill website:

Another things that catched my attention is the label.....Only ddr400 2.2.2.5 ....so...I have never seen a TCCD whichever brand it was running only @ 200 mhz.....and for sure I wont' test any of them @ 200...for these purposes there's a lot of low cost, no brand, no clock, no at all modules...

So...let's go with 210 at least...

I mostly appreciate the straight alpha timings that can be kept....we are just at 10 mhz more than default...but Trfc=13 (vs. 14 on my 4800 LA), Max async latency (m.a.l.) = 7 are quite good anyway...

A doubt scares me ....does the label means tha I won't see 300 mhz 1t ??

naa...I cant' believe it ....but everything has to be proved...so...that's first attempt...

just a 16mb to start......and any doubt is killed..

    So...at this point...let's go over...we are just a Vdimm=2.7 +0.2 enable...let'see what's coming next..

    305

    same timings...but stable on 32mb...

Read preamble (let's try to lower to 5...I really thought it was already there...but it may be I had a hit once more on BIOS screen and put it on 5.5....no matter...)

    308

    I just had to push up a little the voltages....for 308 I needed 2.8 V +0.2 disabled.

First impression is good....with medium tight timings I passed the 300 mhz...so there's enough food to feed many people right ?...

    So...if they're good for 30x...why not stress them @300 ?

    let's see some adjustment....

Trfc (will it keep 13 ?)
    Trrd (will it keep 1 or 0 ????..... )
Max Async latency (what about a 7 ns ??)

    mh....does it work ??....

    Think so..

    Nice...really really nice....
So guys...that'all for the moment....these days have been really busy with X2 test, FX test and so on....I still have tonight to take other shots.and then I'll take some days to be also a good father and husband.... ..but work is still in progress, and test to be performed are all in my mind...first of all as everyone is thinking of....Trcd=3...

So.....stay tuned if you want....you're the welcome...

Nice post. These seem like a good deal for only $152USD at Newegg.

SO...here it's a just a smell of what thery can do with trcd=3....

I had several problems to do this....perhaps the banks are good, not the same for the memory controller (so I had to lower multi i.e.)

Tomorrow I'll try to go further...

    Don't kid us mate, 308MHz at 2,5-4-3-x but only 260MHz 2,5-3-3-x?

    hi guys....I've been away for a while...sorry...

well they have a very strange behaviour by my opinion...I really had some problem to use trcd=3...
the maximum I reached was this (in Win):

Besides...I wanted to test also the system outside Windows....so here it is:

    ok...it's just 15 minutes for test #5
..so I decided to run some more...@ 290...full memtest...

so...I just wondering if mY sandiego memory controller is not so good....ok...at the end we have to run in Windows....but we all know also that over there the CPu itself (just not to say the mainboard, as I think on nf4 DFI there shouldn't be any limitation in max FSB) can have a big influence.....

    What about this ?

    That's is 310...against 308 stable in WIn.....

.....one point still let me think memory controller is heavier day by day..()....I put these sticks of FX n my X2 3800....I really had problems running 300x9 with pc4800 la before....i just put the fx on...and strike.....300x9 spi 32mb passed.....so...what about it ?

I just think today we have to manage ram, cpu, bios (and mainboard)...all together....

    Conroe...
The conroe uses 4mb's of L2, it is a SSE monster. 2 cores, extra 64 bit line. About it. Will be a great multi-tasker. But its really not that impressave.

Thats some sick latency. How the heck did you manage an Async latency of 7ns at 300MHz? You have got one heck of a memory controller on your sandiego capftp

865 those are some freaky timings. Trfc at 18 and Trtw at 4? Ha! I should try that. Very nice result though.

    HI ahmad,
sure it's all depending from diego controller ..and as I always says it's matter of finding the right combination between ram and CPU.

as told above...just with the FX kit I succeed to manage 300x9 on my X2 3800+....so...do they fall in love each other rather than with my old and superperformer pc4800 LA ??

Anyway...I just tried the timings...and it kept it....surely nice...

On X2 i forgot to update the tweaker timings...anyway it can't keep m.a.l.=7.....but it keeps trfc=13 and trrd=0....

Yeah I am pretty sure MAL is something to do with fetching data from memory, so it is processor/controller bound not memory bound I think.

Awesome performance for the price. Even though I like the GSkill modules when they are naked without the heatspreaders I think those ones look quite nice with the silver spreaders.

yes Perc....my kit is oriented towards the Trcd=4....it doesnt' like "3"....but great memory anyway......and low voltage too !

Your SOOOO right about that.. In the last few months Ive had a ram fetish..lol.. And have quite a few sets of ram.. and noticed some combos click and work great.. while others barely run..

    Very nice results btw..
