It'll hang over a little, should be able to attach though.

I'm sure as a temporary "test" it could be done, use wire ties.

We found the stock AMD64 cooler fans, 70MM to fit the GTXs perfectly - however 80MM fit too. If I were buying one I'd say 70 or 80mm fan would work perfect. Personally I prefer fans about 28 Dba and lower.

    Alright, mine is ordered!

    **crickets******crickets***

    Everyone must've went to bed...

I should have my X1800XL from Newegg on Wednesday. Can't wait to slap on the modded 70mm / with fan controller fresh from my 7800 GTX (I just installed the NV5 Silencer Rev3 for the 7800GTX). [I really can't wait to get an X1800XT 256MB BIOS to flash it with.]

Also, www.ZipZoomFly.com has the BBA for $379 Free 2 day shipping!

i cant even unscrew the screw holding on the heatskink cover. Im using a small flat head and the screws yes are for philips type, but flat heads have always worked in philips type screws. With the pressure im applying I doubt even a philips head would work. what now?

Hmm I'd have to see it to tell. I have a small phillips screwdriver - hopefully that can remove the screws. Are they really that tight, or are you just having a problem getting the flat head screwdriver on the head to remove it?

Bit-tech managed to remove it. "...eight small screws that attach the top plate of the heatsink."

Would u disconnect the stock fan on the card? Or do u run both?

Thats too bad, I'd really like to see some close up pics of that cooler / heatsink. Seems like the fan pushes air into it, different than the heatsink that is under the face plate of the 7800 GTX. Still blowing 25 - 30 cfm on that copper plate cannot be a bad thing. Maybe an after market Zalman will be the way to go with the X1800XL.

The GTX had a regular heatsink with fins and then the fan, so we'd disconnect it and just pop a 70 or 80mm fan on there. This is like a housing so there may be an advantage to using both.

Not my pic, but this is just what mine looked like. The GTX has a heatsink with fins so the design is different.

    wire tie trick

use them to secure the fan.

From this pic it's clear that is a heatsink with fins.. I think the GTX trick will work just fine.

I got mine for 379. Oc like crazy, owns any stock 7800 GTX. Shimmering is just in WoW. If it was in any other game review sites would have pointed it out instantly. Its a bug, it sucks.
