    My Barton Just Arived

well my xp2800 barton is here and looks like i have a hot one...i hope.
i ordered a retail cpu for a change thinking that first batch of cpu chips would go to the oems and the later batches would get marked for retail as soon as the release date was near.and i might have called it right.
    my chip

    AXDA2800DKV4D
    9411446260091
    AQUCA 0304RPAW

that gives it a week of 4 ..last week of jan 03 .so this chip is just 3 weeks old.

    here is a pic.

well as soon as i get home and feed my kidds i will play with my chip.i am still at work.

by the way.in case any of you thought i purchased the retail for that extra warranty...... lol i am afraid not...
i will be cutting the chip maybe before the night is over if i have to to gain me some higher fsb room.

the reason i ordered the retail is just to help my odds of getting a newer week chip.plain and simple help the odds a little.a xp2800retail is only $8 higher than the oem in some places.and for $8 i am willing to give to help me get a better core.and i can always use the heatsink for something if nothing else cut it up for some mofset coolers.lol

now in a few months after they get out ..i wouldnt pay any extra but would buy the oem ,by then they will have better weeks.

dont worry i will be posting late tonight with some results

Why cut? Why not "blow the bridge" using a battery as I have seen other talk about. Supposedly undetectable and you can still RMA the chip under warranty later if you need to.

Then again, I've never tried either method and would be somewhat paranoid to do so in the first place.

Anyway, good luck with the chip and let us now how things go ASAP!

cutting the bridge is easier than blowing the bridge...

all you need to do is take a quick stab at it with an xacto knife and youre done

oo yeah use your phase change setup on it. Actually it would nice to know what it'll do on air but hey, it would be nice to see the limits of the chip. Let us know!

well unlike the xp2600....so far it seams to run fine at high fsb.
on air i got it up to 2400mhz 218x11@1.8v .but i have no mutiplyers over 12.5.so i am at the moment removing the foam corner suports on the chip and replacing them with epoxy mounting pads.(i do every AMD i own like this.)to prevent chipping of the core. and i am cutting the L3 also.i will need the 13 multiplier i hope. i did make a 3dmark03 run to see how it ran at that speed on air.here it is.
i am now trying to install in my evaperator back on the chip to cool her down.

Good work and quick benches, thanks a lot bowman. I've been looking forward to an unbiased Barton review for a while now, especially one without handpicked chips. When you cool that puppy down, I can imagine your benches. Thanks man.

well cut the L3 bridge and got my upper multiplyers.so i am working on reinstalling the evaperator tommorow and push it a little harder lol
my last xp2600 started off about the same overclock on air and finally made it to a stable 2834mhz that i have been benching with.i hope this barton gets about the same.but i will see tommorow night i hope.

    y don't you have multi's over 13
your epox bios should support that I would think, but then again what is the default multi of the 2800+ again?

    12.5 is 2800+ Mult.

Bowman, which L3 bridges did you cut / connect?

On a different note, if you remember a guy who goes by "jacktheripper", were about done with the R404 unit.

yes it uses a 12.5 x166...and i know everyone thinks these boards unlock the new chips but at this moment they do not allow multiplyers over 12.5.
my xp2600 was the same way that is why i have no problem cutting the chip ,as i have done it before.
this maybe solved with a bios change down the road but not yet.

anyway here is the bridge i cut .
