    X1800XL results, '01 '03 & '05

    Just unboxed this tonight.

First impressions, this is a big card, heavy too. I started with a fresh XP install, ran all three Futuremark tests starting with default settings on FX-57 & card. 1024x768 for clarity. In the '05 cap you can see W1zzards Beta of ATI Tool which has core voltage adjustment working. Nice job W1zzard.

Next I overclocked the FX to 3.57Ghz and maxed the card in Control Center which happens to be 575/550 up from the default 500/500 factory clocks. Here's what happened.

    The negatives:

This card runs very hot, 83° on stock fan speeds. Running 100% fan speed lowered the core to 53°, 57° loaded. I'm also seeing some odd flickering and momentary black screening. I hope that turns out to be a driver issue. Cat 5.10 will not run on this, I'm on the shipping Beta's. Also as of this moment there is no way to overclock this card the way I want, only the meager clocks you can set via Control Center.

Overall a very nice card, you can see the power of the new architecture in these lowly clocks. Given a real overclocking utility, the ability to control voltage via software, and Ram rated at 700Mhz this should be a pretty fun card.

    Next stop, the XT

Results are very similar to mine with a XFX7800GT, not only default but overclocked results too, unless 3DMark01 where the FX57 totally beats my tiny Venice

    nice.

i like these cards especially that ati does something to adjust voltages i hope this works well next time and we ll see something Xtreme

good work keep it up with that card.

whats the cost of the card, we cant get it here. (damn paper launch)

what i hate is that ati gives cards to well know ppl in ocing society but non of us mortals can play with that here there is none available!

I have no flickering, do you have it at stock or overclocked? If its only while oc, did you try upping the vcore? I like the way the vcore adjustment goes in .05v increments.

It's weak in 3Dmark03 but it's doing very well in both 3Dmark01 and 3dmark05. In The Netherlands these cards are not more expensive than the 7800GT's so they are a real competition to Nvidia.

It might be a driver issue though...... I'd imagine the scores will go up in a month or so once the driver support comes out.

G H Z....can you please scour the Registry (in any area ATi stuff would be) for the values 575 and 550 and see if anything turns up....as I've said a few times, I have an overwhelming feeling those aren't magic numbers.

If something turns up, I think you know what to do

How do you enable overclocking in the CCC? Any registry tweaks

It's reponses like those discouraging G H Z that are the reason threads like this never end up happeneing in the first place. I'm encouraging anyone who has an XL to make their own thread to explore the possibilities of ocing for their specific rigs which might give comparable performance information to other members here.

WHY IS IT NOT IMPRESSIVE RIGHT NOW ????? Pls dont be so judgemental while being so ill-informed at the same time not to know that he cannot overclock the card to its fullest without the unreleased ATI ocing tool. Once that is released, you all can make your opinions clear.

I find it really annoying when someone goes through the trouble of running three different programs three different times only to have members look down upon the effort.

Looking forward to better cooling + results with the oc tool, G H Z

Good post perkam....all the negaitivity in this thread is just unnecessary.

Anyway, I'd still like to see the registry explored at least for a few minutes...I don't have an ATi card here so I can't (let alone one where I can OC through CCC).....if something is found, hopefully it'll suffice until we get a better OCing tool as we already have a voltage changing tool.

And G H Z....can you also try taking off the faceplate from its HSF and put a fan on it? It's worked QUITE well for 7800s.

    Keep the info coming man....

Are you running the drivers supplied with the card? It should be under ATi Overdrive, no reg tweaks necessary. BTW...ATi Tool can't OC an X1 yet.

I´m using some drivers downloaded from ATI`s FTP (private for press)

I have to bench this card, and I´m not supposed to (I´m in charge of benching Nvidia´s products and processors, the guy who benches ATI cards is on vacations and probably flying to Cuba)

Maybe you can help me, this is what CCC says about the drivers. But I have no options of overdrive.

If I don´t overclock this bastard readers will be very upset

Oh, you're press....yeah, they probably don't want you OCing.....but you can probably ask for their private tool.

Talk to G H Z about getting a copy off his retail CD of the drivers he's using.

And, this may be crazy, but try switching to English....they might not have translated the OverDrive page to Spanish

I don´t care if they don´t want me to do it. They didn´t mind to give me drivers, the card is just in a Foxconn bag and it seems like someone spelt Mountain Dew on top of it. I´m overclocking this thing anyway , at least for fun.

I sent him a PM. Let´s hope he answers soon. I also PMed W1zzard to see if he can "lend" me ATI Tool Beta 9.

The driver I downloaded was about 50mb, It was the only one in the FTP. I think it´s international and it probably detects automatically the language of Windows.

Anyways I think someone is not bar hopping tomorrow
