Dothan, X800 XT, Audigy 2 Problem

    I've had my rig running my Asus P4C800-E, Dothan 725, Audigy 2 and Radeon 9800 Pro for months. I recently bought a ATI X800 XT PE and have been experiencing numerous problems;

First, I installed the graphics card to find that on reboot it would freeze during the XP boot screen. After many attempts on re-installing the drivers I sent back the graphics card. During the period between getting the replacement card, I bought a new Tagan 520w PSU as I thought there might not be enough power being supplied.

After all my new parts came, I installed these and I still get the same problem (the card now has its own rail so it isnt a power problem). I've reinstalled with only XP SP1, tried different drivers and found that the pc will not boot with the Audigy 2 and the x800 at the same time, it will boot but once the drivers are installed and you restart, it then freezes. The rig does boot and works fine with the onboard sound but I'm a bit gutted really as it is rubbish, and I'm really wondering if anyone has tried an Audigy 2 with the X800 XT? I'm starting to think it may be just because of my dothan, I'm really not sure ... I need help because im pulling my hair out here.

    Cheers

the dothie has nothing to do with it.. it is a lovely cpu

Maybe the Audigy2 has gone bad?... or maybe the system is having IRQ management problem?.. Have you tried resetting the CMOS? Maybe try it on different PCI slot?

I'm suspecting something maybe going wrong with the sound card, possibly hardware failure. Do you have any other sound card laying around?

Oh man I love my dothie, just gutted that this new gfx card is bein temperamental, BF2 & HL2 look beautiful tho

Anyway, the audigy works fine with other graphics cards, and both audigy and radeon have their own irq .... I've reset the cmos, tried plug n play os, tried all 5 pci slots (that was fun) ... I really am lost

Thank god someone else has experienced this problem! moddolicous - I put it to stock for a fresh install and still got the problem, IamAnoobieCheez - yeah i tried 2003 and that still gave me to problem.

Its annoying that the audigy doesnt want to work with this card,

I got exactly that problem and I am now faced with the dilemma of using onboard sound or trying my old live digital 5.1

olfen, I think this might be a 875 chipset problem, I'm gonna take this up with intel and see what they see, knowing their tech support I'll get an answer in about a month tho.

On another note then, has anyone tried using the new Audigy Xi-Fi? I would go for Terratec DMX Fire LT but its support for EAX is poor, and if I want good quality music I'll get a propper system.

I don't have an Audigy but do have the P4C800ED MB.

Try moving the Audigy to the 3rd PCI slot from the right (closest PCI slot to the AGP beign slot 1).

Had a lockup problem when I had a PCI PATA IDE card in slot 2 as it seems to had shared IRQ with the USB bus or something. Moved it over to slot 3 and 4, problem solved.

Disable your onboard sound when you try this.

my buds asus Nf4 board w/ x850xtpe, and audigy 2 does not work either... it would hang in the bios, and would only boot every other time... suprisingly he replaced his el cheapo 2x1gb kit, and it works fine now

I have the same problem. It started in my 875P-T and the x800xt, Z2 and continued with the dothan p4c800 and x800xt,Z2.I have an IDE harddrive and a rata raid-0 and can boot from both, the raid setup boots better than the idem, sometimes the ide needs 3-4 boots to go.Did you notice if this started before or after cat 5.7?

i have the p4c800-e and the x800xt. i really doubt that its the video card. i think its something to do with memory or USB devices for me at least.

I have this exact problem, I'm not sure if it is anything to do with the memory, usb, irq etc as I had this set up working fine with my 9800pro. I did think there was something very wrong with the combination of x800 & Audigy 2, but I installed my live digital last night, it boots successfully 80% of the time but at times does freeze on boot up. I'm worried that if I buy a Audigy Xi-Fi the same problem will occur? I dont want to get rid of this set up as I've just got it but am considering going to pci-e and getting the x1800xl & p4gpl-x ...

Anyway, if anyone wouldn't mind to help me solve this problem, if you are running a p4c800-e with an x800xt could you please post what sound you are running? Thanks

when i try the audigy2 with x800 and i use a molex from the same channel of the power supply for the ct479 , some utility like alchool or daemon tools doesn't works...

I think we need to wait new creative drivers or patches...

I don't have any of the stuff you mentioned, but it could be something simple like a BIOS setting which seems that it doesn't have anything to do with your problem.

Example: When I tried to run a Promise RAID card I was having lots of problems, bought a new PSU (Before I was running a 235W Sparkle)...same problems, at some point I found out that the problems were caused by the USB OS/BIOS setting, when set to BIOS it wouldn't work, when set to OS it worked fine.
