Woohoo!!! My new 939 Opteron 146 just showed up!!!

And guess what the stepping is:

    CABNE 0530APMW

Yep, seems it's exactly the same as several very solid overclocking FX-57 chips seen around these forums!

    Could it be???

An FX-57 for a couple hundred bucks!??!?!

Perhaps so... wish me luck fellows, I'm off to get it under some water and all, hoping to have some results tonight!

A big three cheers to a very special forum member here who hooked me up!! Thanks bro! I owe you!!

...that is, if it overclocks well.

Ok, quick update... first attempt at overclocking.

I figured I'd start at 3ghz and try and work my way up, so, I bumped voltage to 1.45v and set the FSB to 300 1:1, much to my surprise, it booted in fine and ran SuperPi.

Here's a screen shot of 1meg... HORRIBLE time, I need to start tweaking.

Gotta say this much, this chip is SCREAMING fast, feels MUCH faster then my X2 did at 2.7ghz.

    Wonder why.

Anyhow, thanks for looking, wish me luck on getting it higher... and stable at those speeds!

PS - I do not know my serial number, tossed it into the system without checking, sorry.

^Really? I would think the X2@2.7 would pwn the 3GHz Opteron..

Can you elaborate on "feels faster" please? Right now I am trying to get my X2 to 2700 but my stupid mobo is being retarded and doing stuff like making both cores fail at the same time.. I mean come on that is definetly mobo problem and not chip.

It would be great to sell this for $300 and get a faster chip for $200 but I still think this would be faster ..

Aha... well, by faster, I mean Windows, it is moving smoother and applications start right away.

However, the X2 smokes this chip with video conversion of 3d render.

Thats all, no doubt, for general apps the Opteron at 3ghz is faster, but for dual apps the X2 wins.

It's simple really, the single core has 300mhz over what my X2 runs at.

With single threaded apps, this is absolutely faster. This is a S939 146--your research wasn't in depth enough, apparently.
