Thread: Are 939 opterons Venus or sandiego cores??

    denmark is a dual core part with 2 x 1MB cache, not a single 2MB cache.

    I believe the only thing that seperates venus and san diago are memory controllers and number of hypertransport links. The number of HT links is unimportant in uniprocessor configurations so thats no loss for the 1 series, but san diago uses non registered memory wheras venus needs registered, whether there is an architectural difference or some arbitrary locking mechanism I don't know, but the use of non registered memory in the 939 opterons means that the core is exactly the same as San Diago, but really AMD could call them whatever they wanted if they wanted to seperate the lines, intel do just that, and the xeons are exactly the same as the p4's.
