im sry, i dont have pics, but i have a XP-90c runnin on my moddified CT479.
Its not bad, the temps are ok, but i think, there are better solutions then this, cause the cooler isnt very stable....if i move the cooler a bit, the temps change. Its not a very proper thing :-/
I've used both 7000alcu and 7700cu. To be quite frank, both were good up to ~1.5vcore. But temps pushed 60*C on the 7000 and 55*C on the 7700 with fan @ max speed. If you want to max out a chip and run it there 24/7, I recommend you pic at a minimum the 7700cu, but preferably something better like a big typhoon and mod it. Though I do work in a 90*F+ room.
Only the stupidest humans believe that the dogma of relative filth is a defense.
I run a XP-90.. All I did was remove the two machine screws holding the bracket on (one for each bracket). Drilled this hole a little bigger, then ran bolts through the hole, followed with two nuts, then the bracket, followed by another nut to secure the bracket on.. I run my chip at 1.55v at 2600 passively, just the rear exhaust pulling air off of the cpu (120mm though), Prime temps are around 59-61C.. I will see if I can get some pics of it later..
Really simple, but all I did was replace the stock 70mm fan with a 70mm 6k RPM delta from an old Volcano 7cu+. Gets the job done and I have it hooked up to my fan controller. The screws from the old 70mm werent long enough, so am using Zip Ties atm....lol![]()
Under Prime load my temps are around 51-54C
I am also wondering if anyone else has trouble with the stock retention mechanism? If it moves just the slightest way, temp changes a lot. So i dont know, maybe I am using the clips wrong, but there is really only one way it works..... Anyone else have that problem? /shrug

i have been doing on my pahse change cooling mount for dothan
this is my insulation and shim solution
and while mounting and tightining i had a little accident
does anybody have any ideas how to mound withnout that adapter or how to strenghten it.
I used the mounting hardware from a 7000 cu to mount an SI-97,I will try it with a SI-120 when I get one.

Thanks for making this thread. This is some really good info for me to use for my dothan build. The 7700cu seems really good. It looks in the pics like it hangs over the top of the board by quite a bit though is my only concern. I want mine to live in a case. Would all asus motherboards have the cpu located in exactly the same spot? Would someone tell me how far it hangs over the board? Thanks for the pics.

the P4 hsf retention guide orientation between P4P and P4C is different, and so is the clearance betw the retention guide and PSU.
hope u will find this useful : http://www.zalman.co.kr/product/cool...MBlist_eng.htm
You are also using a different board.Originally Posted by stryg

Thanks for the link and also for your pictures. I plan on using the p4gpl-x and from pictures that I've seen of it the processor socket is almost directly at the top of the board. How much cooling would I lose with a 7000 instead of the 7700 series. Also I see that Zalman has a new 9500 series that is supposed to be better. It would work in my case if I could mount it. It seems to mount very similar to the 7700 ie using the brackets but they are lower profile. I wonder if this would work with a dothan? They claim this cooler is better than water cooling.Originally Posted by phenglee

7000 --> 7700, probably 3~5*C difference my guess..Originally Posted by 16floz470ml
the 9500 looks good, and i think mounting on a dothan could be a possibility. must resist the temptation to change to this hsf, still like the downward airflow from my 7700 though![]()

I will mount my ln2 can these days...
Question: do I have to use an IHS from a P4 in order to mount a 7000/7700 ? Or just some padding like the CT-479 cooler has will be enough?
I also want to have this in a case, isn't the 7000AlCu lighter and safer than the 7700AlCu?
