    Thumbs up 2GB Ballistix POWAR!!!

Recently I'd Upgraded my memory from 1GB XP4000 Redline to these 2GB Crucial Ballistix for smoother BF2 gameplay, been busy playing the darn thing and never had a chance to overclock them till today, basically my X2 4200 went belly up couple days ago so I bought a Venice 3000 as spare while I was waiting for the X2 3800 replacement, with the Venice without much effort I was able to clock these Ballistix up to 297 @3-3-3-8 1T with 2.9V, they'd passed memtest and superPI 32M with flying colors Well...today I'd received the X2 3800 so after couple hours of tweaking this is where I'm at now:

My X2 3800 sucks....can't clock any higher than 2.90Ghz regardless what vcore being used, well...still with the IHS on and for whatever reason the memory timing also need to be relax even more with the dual core, I'd also notice the memory heatspreader are burning hot even at 250 @2.60v so I think adding a 80mm fan on top of them is a must!! With a fan they're cool to touch now at 290 @3-3-3-8 1T, 2.8v I'm using the 704-2BTA bios, maybe I shoudl try 510 or others to see if I can clock any higher

All and all, I'm very happy with these Ballistix

I think you did the Prime test on only CPU 0...you have to select one primer for CPU 0 and one for CPU 1...

    Nice results

True, he's only running prime on the first core and no load on the other core lol!! Uncheck the the "no affinity" on both sp2004 and the set one sp2004 to "0" and the other to "1" put priority 10 on the first and 9 the second

on Memtest the BW is 3776 MB/s, Everest and Sandra is here:

My previous X2 4200 did not like chipset voltage anything lower than 1.70v, had to stick with 1.80, same as LDT...had to use 1.50v, otherwise I would get random BSOD and reboot, so I assume this 3800 is going to require the same high chipset and LDT for stability, but I'll crank them down to see what's up.

I dont' think I'm going to remove the darn IHS on these 3800 to gain a few mhz ever again LOL I saw absolutely no differences when I had my very first x2 3800 couple months ago, only gained about 20~50mhz by removing the darn thing, that old 3800 also clock about the same as this one. The 4200 I'd gained almost 100mhz by removing it, though I was having all sorts of memory controller problem afterward, these Ballistix wouldn't work on that 4200, for awhile I also thought my Redline and Gskill were bad but didn't realized memory controller was the problem, basically just came home from work one day and the pc wouldn't boot anymore, put the 4200 cpu on a brand new mobo with same result so it's dead for sure and $500 went down the drain just like that I'm still debating if I should get an FX55 or 57 SD to see what can I expect from it under a single stage phase and see how far I can push these Ballistix.....decision decision.....

    thanks.

Nope, I use the task manager to set the Affinity, one instance on core 0 and the other on core 1, if you try to run two instances on the same core either one of the prime will failed almost immediately. Also pay attention to the Windows Task Manager I had opened next to those primes on that same screenie, BOTH cores are running simultaneously I also ran the SuperPI 32M simultaneously on separate core as well, look at the 2nd screenie on my original post, took that screenie when they were almost finished with two instances running at the same time

Edit** here's the two cores running on prime:

I'm not sure if I know how to run unbuffer.....just go to the module option to uncheck the option "Enable Buffering/Block-Prefetch Benchmarks" I assume?? if so...here it is...

speaking of Artillery strike....I got the commander seat earlier and right after I launched it on a flag packed with MEC, a bunch of US team breached the MEC infrantry and stood around the flag and all of em got blown up into the sky LOL I had already warned ALL of them that it was an Artillery Kill area even before I'd launched the Artillery but I guess those die-hard supermen must of thought they were unbreakable, needless to say I got kicked out of the server for excessive Team Killed!!! LOL

He he...just one question...what is the "no affinity" for?...and why priority to 10 and 9?...isn`t priority 1 the highest one?... Thx for the explenation...

    Thumbs up

    Thanks

I bought them from Newegg almost 2 weeks ago, they had huge amount of these stuff in stock, when I'd checked quantity 99 they had all of them available, these are the regular 1GB Ballistix Z503 module, didn't expect them to clock so darn high even on dual core, good stuff!

By the way, I'd just cranked down my LDT and chipset voltage and ran the dual SuperPI 32M again, looks like this X2 3800 is ok with lower voltage so far, I'll need to play with the the rest of the settings when time available....for now I'm going back to BF2....need more score for next weapon unlock!! LOL

NewEgg currently has 100+ available on the 2x1gig sets and has dropped the price slightly to $306. Maybe if supplies stay good we'll see sub $300 pricing soon. At that point I'm in.

    Lightbulb

Does anybody know how to turn off the DQS Skew Mode in BIOS? I only see three options: Auto, Increase (which is slower in A64 Tweaker), and Decrease (Faster in A64 Tweaker), I've found an improvement in stability when I have this set to OFF via the Tweaker especially at higher mem clock Another good news.... I believe I'd also nailed down the Dram Drive and Dram Data strength on these beast I'll post some results soon.

Edit: nevermind, found the OFF setting for DQS Skew Mode, it's the AUTO in Bios
