    Were they testing low frequency notes in a large open space?

    Also, According to that article they just surrounded someone with speakers. You really need to deal with phases or your sound gets destroyed. Anytime you have 2 speakers firing at each other they are not working as well as they could be if they were in phase, they are creating destructive interference.
