    Antec True 550W problem

    Hi !

Until yesterday, I had an Antec True 550W. It has been working for at least one and a half years non stop. Since I was going to change board and processor (XP-M to A64) I shut it down two weeks ago.

Yesterday when I was starting to mount my new computer, when I tried to power it on, my psu blew up, and the main Power Board of my house (dunno how you call it), was shut down.

After disconnecting the PSU, I opened it, and saw two little es (spiders) next to a condenser (I think it's a condenser, see the pictures), that that was burned with two little holes.
After cleaning all the dust (it seems to me that I had one ton of dust inside ), whenever I try to power on the psu, some sparks jump of the condenser, allways shutting down my House's main power board.

The big problem is that I can't find any reference printed on this condenser.
How can I find it ?

Thanks, and sory for my rusty English.

The component is a thermistor which is put in series with the supply rails to limit inrush currents when the PSU is first turned on. The fact that it has died suggests that there is a bigger fault somewhere in the power supply causing it to trip fuses.

I really think that's the only problem with this psu.
Both spiders were toasted below this component, and this is the only burned component (at least that I can see).

Does anyone know an equivalent replacement part, so I can try to repare it ?

    thanks

    Yikes man, good luck :S.

Maybe google the numbers (if readable) on the component?

    Fkin spiders.

I'd go psycho and get my house fumigated if I found spiders in my comp, and I'd scream, lol.

google any numbers that are on it and see if you can find a replacement part, doesnt look hard to fix as long as u find out what it is.
