    You have the idea!

But one thing, as this is already on a little piece of PCB you need not solder to multiple pins for Vdd and GND, just one of each will do as these will almost certainly be connected on the PCB anyway. Check the resistance bettween the different Vdd (or GND) supply pins to make sure if you want...

All you need is 3 wires, but be very very very carefull cutting the pin 5 OE trace

Why the 150 Ohm resistor? Just for safety? I wouldnt put it in series with Vdd....

The pll is for nosfer@tu which he should be getting any day. On the data sheet the I looked at the max supply voltage and I though I would just lower the voltage a bit. I was aiming for 3.3v but I got the calculations wrong and ended with around 4.2v which hopefully is ok.

The "scavenged" PLL is compatible with 3.3v as well as 5v. The Board PLL is 3.3v. You should try to have the same logic levels on each, so just wire in direct to board PLL, no resistor...

With the resistor you could get nasties happening, depends on what is driven off reference line and wether it is tolerant of much more than 3.3v

Generally you shouldnt use resistors on voltage supply rails of IC's....

Right thanks SoddemFX for the advice have you go any recomendations for a replacement crystal around 14.69mhz. Or would you be able to go higher without the other clocks going crazy such as 15mhz 16mhz.

You should be fine up to 16MHz, maybe more. USB may be the first to flake out at about this, but do you mind? I just disable it in BIOS...

Just find any crystal in HC49 or HC49U packaging type. Scavenging old hardware is often productive

I just checked rswww.com - the prices for the crystal ranges your interested in are very good, ranging from 20p to 60p each. Have a look in old VCRs or 286 motherboards also, they have lots of the usefull values.

I recomend that you desolder the existing crystal and use two pins out of "turned pin" inline socket strip to make a quick change crystal mounting. This way you can interchange different crystals very quickly. Give me a shout if you need some...
