    Cool 4x 1GB Crucial Ballistix Tracer PC4000 + DFI NF4 UT SLI-DR

    Bought one pair from crucial.com and i got a 2nd set of individual single 1GB ballistix tracers 2nd hand to make up to a 4GB config

    Singles:

    CM128M6416T27ZD2T-4YXCDFTL

    vs

    Dual channel kit:

    BL12864L503. 16TD

    I emailed crucial to ask about the different code in the left side white label on modules and was told the code depends on the retailer etc i.e. Crucial direct shows L503 etc, while newegg where the singles came from showed ZD2T. The orange label on modules comes from crucial/micron and the PN (crucial terms material #) denotes the memory ICs used.

    Crucial confirmed both PN of 51181 use the same Micron ICs

    Now both sets do exactly same settings 280-285mhz 3-3-3-8 8-18-2223 1T at 2.76v. So thought I'd try 4x 1GB config with 2T.

    To start with for 4GB, in DFI NF4 advance chipset bios section you need to enable PCI MMIO memory hole option to properly map 4GB otherwise you will only see 3GB of memory.

    from 623-3 official bios

    Will take ages to complete memtest

    edit: more piccies

    @12x250mhz 3-3-3-8 2T at 2.79v test #8 will freeze at 19%

    don't have enough patience to figure out the test #8 freezes so dropped down to 240mhz 3-3-3-8 2T at 2.79v with no probs

    hmmm Pcmark04 only sees 3GB of ram heh

    Pcmark04 = 5,582

    edit: see no probs once swapped sticks around the dimm slots

    Pcmark05 = 5,882

    Can't wait for results George ! If you can get 270mhz out of the 4 sticks that would be very impressive.

    I'm going to give 4x1gig a try next week too but I doubt I keep the config on a permanent basis.

    BTW, what goober wrote numbers on the individual sticks with a pen ? OMG !

    These simply won't run at 1T.
    It's the same thing with 4x512MB, there's just too many ranks for any memcontroller to handle them all.
    You were not supposed to see this.

    Wow Eva...240 aint too shabby with 4 gigs Your Pi times are pretty good too, doesn't look like too much of a performance hit over a comparable 2gig setup. Nice board too.

    maybe not at 200mhz, but it should around 133-166mhz
    240mhz is nice for 4gb of ram though, i'm quite impressed

    i think you can pull the ram up a lot
    my z503 can do much better
    prime stable and 32M pass

    295*9 not 295*10 32M; u can see the CPUZ is cpu/9

    sry for to state,
    the 32M is running on 295*9, not 295*9
    so it is a bit slower!

    George, with 4 sticks its very important which dimm's you put the strongest and weakest sticks. Strongest stick should be in the Dimm farthest from the CPU and the weakest stick in the Dimm closest to the CPU, you can then simply switch the remaining two sticks in Dimm's 2 and 3 to see where you get to.

    Excellent resluts you have there Guess2098 !

    thanks guess2098 much appreciated as you're the only other person using 4x1GB Ballistixs to share notes with

    I'll heed Major's advice and play with ram in different dimm slots as well as see what happens

    ^^
    but remember, the DFi only reads 3GB ram!
    that might the porblem to cause the error on memtest86+

    yay fixed problem swapped sticks in 2 slots closest to cpu socket around as 19% in first pass seem to suggest issue is with first stick now test #8 running fine at 12x 250mhz 3-3-3-8 8-18-2223 at 2.79v (tightened timings )

    guess2098, how far did each 2x1GB set oc individually ? how much lower mhz did 4x1GB go for you compared to 2x1GB ?

    just wondering if my 2x1GB do 285mhz 3-3-3-8 how much of a reduction would there be for 4x1GB compared to yours ?
