Swiftech MCW55 VGA block is out

    www.swiftnets.com

Think it will preform better than the Maze4? I'm ready to order my water cooling, and need to know which to buy. The Maze4 is cheaper, so unless the 55 is significantly better, I'll just let it go.

other than the fact that the outside looks like arse, the guts look pretty good, alot like the wintsch labs blocks. *waits anxiously for a TEC version*
huge plus i see off the bat is that the only version of this block is in delrin (unlike maze4, which has aluminum versions floating around)
looks like it could be a good block, but that tube system is incredibly poorly designed.

it says same dimensions as the MCW50, but the adapter around it makes it look bigger, hope it'll fit on my AIW

Just the connector interface on it would make me go with the Maze 4 GPU instead. Barbs > Quick Connect + adapters any day.

looks nice... until you see the actual connectors...

I'm not one for absolute bling, but even I would have prefered if they went with barbs.

No aluminum (at least on the block, if not the mounting), which is a good idea.

bloody, this is exactly the same thign as the mcw50, but with a delrin top.. same thing wit the maze4.. they switched to delrin with the maze4...

as to the design. it should work pretty well and is a proven design with the 5000 series and mcw50.

BUT i would liked to have see some more innovation from swiftech in this design.. when i read the title of this thread i was hoping fora bit more.. but ohwell..

Swiftech claims they've refined the design and the numbers they claim for C/W bear this out. Of course, take the manufactor's numbers with a grain of salt, but they've generally agreed with 3rd party tests in the past.

I'm not really expecting anything new in GPU blocks anytime soon. Look at the C/W numbers on swiftech's site. They're already extremely low (less then 1/4 the MCW6000!). You're not going to do much better without starting to seriously impact flow rate to the CPU I think, and most people aren't going to be willing to buy a second pump just to handle the GPU.

Given the diminishing returns, switching to an all copper/plastic design is the most useful improvement I expect from future GPU blocks. I'd rather have a block thats safe in the long term, then one thats 1/4 degree cooler.

I really thought we were gonna see MCW 600X pins inside instead of the 500X base...

oh well, when are we gonna see a VGA block with a Cascade / Storm jet system?

ark it will be a long time before we see one of those, if ever.. at that point you would need two loops or and RD30 to run in series and keep good flow.

ah, i was unaware of what the MCW50's base. All i know is that the MCW50-T is just a top with water directly over a TEC. why oh why aren't there any really good GPU TEC blocks for <200 bucks?*grumbles*

I don't think there's any reason to go with a standard Maze 4 over the Acetal, not even price. Can't comment about the MCW55, though; no personal experience and haven't even seen a review.

4 plates of copper, 2 barbed fittings, a dremel, a propane torch, 4 machine screws, a dash of silver solder and boom...you have a tec waterblock for about $30. I ended up having one small piece of copper on hand when I built my last one and after getting the TEC dirt cheap off of eGhey I ended up having something like $22 in the whole thing including the TEC...maybe $25 after I insulated it.

hmmmmm....cox finally upgraded my webspace account, I now have about 10 times more room than I had in the past and I am overdue for a new weapon how-to write up...

you totally lost me on that... does it have any internal design at all?
Personally, I like WBs with some internal design of some form... but that may just be me

According to Swiftech the MCW55 and the G4 are near identical in performance, with the MCW55 perhaps slightly ahead. I don't like the new heat vehicle Bill is using, I think perhaps it is giving funky results.
