Think I did a bad bios flash...eeek HELP

    Well, yay for problems.

I received njkid's LE's today, so I set everything to non-overclocked on my system, used winflash to flash to bigtoe's 704-2. When it was still installing the bios, everything froze for a good 5 minutes, something that never happened before. But eventually it said it was seccessful, so I rebooted and put the LE's in. Now here's the problem. Even when in bios, my computer is freezing. Every couple times little squares will pop up on the screen and then it will freeze, and even discolor. Memtest will run perfectly and I ran 300mhz on 2.5-4-3-7 just fine, but windows refuses to boot and now it's saying it cant find my windows installation. Is this a bad flash or do I just need to reinstall windows? NEED HELP

    Thanks.

    I don't have a floppy drive.

xs64, i've tried all the slots, it's all the same. although, I'll try leaving my cmos battery out for an hour or something.

Good to hear you got the LE's. I think you should reflash again. When I use Winflash I always do it twice.. Now I would defrag your drive as well. Hey did you get the VX out?

Agreed, I always flash twice. The one time I didn't on my old NF7 I had problems and had to hot flash....talk about a pain in the butt.

Oh ok sorry I'll have to find it but there is a bootable cdrom with that bios in it.

Edit: well I couldnt find the one with the 704-2BT bios but I think you should at least flash to 623-1 or 3 to get everything fixed. So dl the bootable cdrom and try booting to that... I hope this helps!!! PM sent...

I noticed the bios i flashed to are 704-2, and -2 are optimized for high voltage ram, -3 for TCCD. my OCZ VX is working but not the TCCD? maybe I should flash to a -3

edit :nj, is 623-3 what you used with them?

I used the 704-2BT it worked best. That bios was the best one I used after trying several different bios's. Now with that ram if you are running at HTT-200 run the ram at 2-2-2-5 at like 2.7v it will run that up to 230mhz with those timings.

Edit:!!!! Sorry, your running a winny arent you? If so then I would say to use the 510-1 or 3 Fixed bios thats on that CDROM!!!

Well I flashed to 704-2BT originally and it was doing that. I JUST NOW flashed to 623-3 and it's STILL doing it, and i did that TWICE. OCZ VX still working fine as usual. No offense at all nj, but i'd like to at least solve this before mailing them if you dont mind (hopefully solve this tonight)

edit : 510-3 then? ok, time to flash

Well I think that you may have to mess with your timings a little and if you know anything about DFI mobo's they are really picky! I'll wait for you to sort it out but I know for a fact there is nothing wrong with the ram. I really hope this doesnt become a problem!

Well I flashed to 510-3 and i'm on both sticks atm. it was giving me the exact same troubles but I set it to 2.8v and 200fsb on 2-2-2-5 and I finally booted for the first time. I'm going to go try 275 on 2.5-3-3-7 on 2.8v and I'll post if it works

welp, must have been a lucky boot, because it's doing the same thing again. And yeah, it was the fixed one. IDK what to do at this point.

nj, do you have aim or MSN messenger?

Yeah I do but I am not at home from work yet. I'll be on later when I get home though. Now if you are having problems booting you will need to mess with the timings. Like I said your mobo is picky when it comes to ram cuz I know mine is. Just do a search and find someone with some settings you can try. Auto timings isnt going to work right. I did need to give them 2.9v to get higher so you may want to do that as well. My aim is njkidzona

2.9v to overclock at all is what you're saying? Yeah I was using auto timings on everything except for 1:1, 1t, and 2.5-3-3-7...so maybe I should look around. Help me?

sounds like that memory you just bought off the kid may be defective or just dont play nice in you system...? doesnt g-skills have a good warrenty dept? i wouldnt think it to be a problem getting those sticks looked at or possibly replaced from g-skills.... just a little food for thought.

    peace perc,

Well, it's been ALL day and I still cant get these to work right in my system. I did 310mhz on 2.5-4-3-7 with Kakoroto or whatever's guide in the stickies, works fine in memtest, cant boot into windows. right now I'm on 200mhz on 2-4-4-8 and I somehow booted and it's staying up. I'll try again tomorrow, but if I can't get these working tomorrow, I'm either sending them back to njkid (I don't want to) or talking to a G.Skill rep about trading them.

@DamienKC: I have about the same problem, VX works fine (but however, one crash every three days?!) but the old OCZ tccd 431 memtests at 300+ and cannot boot into windows at high speeds... (tried about every bios that is optimised for X2, no difference).

So I don't suspect the memory and I hope it's not the cpu (never used the faulty 704-2). On monday I will try to clear the c-mos-chip on a Galep-4 and program the 704-2BT back in it... Hope this solves this crazy problem...
I'll tell you about the result and I'm confident the G.Skill you bought is not faulty.
