    Question about meanwell PSU's

I have my new Panworld 30PI-Z-D hooked up to the meanwell Nikhsub linked me to a few weeks back. It's working great now, however, it's running at like 25-26volts because the meanwell seems to over-volt a little. This would not be an issue if the pump didn't dump so much heat at these voltages, but it does. The PSU has a pot on it, however when adjusting and measuring with a multimeter, nothing changes...almost as if the pot is not connected or something. Is this the case? Do I need to connect the pot to something? I assumed it just was wired through the pump and just worked...but unless it's broken, it's not doing not.

i've used a few meanwells and the pot always works fine. are you using a correctly sized screwdriver? it's a pita because you can't put pressure on it and it wont turn without a perfect fit.

I can turn it just fine, but it doesn't do jack. None the less, I seem to be getting incredible temps, so I guess I don't have too much to worry about.

tossing a resistor or pot inline with the pumps + will effectively do the same thing.

I hope you dont mean on the lines to the pump from the PSU <_<

EnJoY: Could you post some pics of the pump? I would love to see what it looks like. TIA.

Also, email meanwell with your problems, if they can't tell you whats worng, no-one can.

i did mean on the 24v line from the PSU to the pump. that would drop the voltage by a bit to the pump, effectively doing the same thing as the pot on the PSU.

True, but you would ned a 50W resistor or some such.

Enjoy the pot on the meanwell should work, if not, rma the psu... you should be able to get that sucker down to about 17-18v or so.

Wired it correctly. Pot is shot I think, but to be honest, I am not worried as my load temps are 3c above idle with full prime 95 8hours+.

    Pics of Panworld 30-PI-Z pump

Not to steal from Enjoy's glory, but here's some quick pics I took of the pump.

I have yet to try out or build my water-cooled system. My version seems to have a RPM-sense or RPM-control line. Not terribly sure what exactly it is. Hope to find out this holiday weekend.

Some pics with ruler to give it some scale... It's a bit smaller than it appears in the pics, as the perspective isn't straight on.

I have mine mounted upside down on a block of wood in my floppy drive cage. They are very compact considering the punch they pack.

My temps are 27c idle, 30c load.

My specs are in sig, and keep in mind my pump is running at full 24 volts and I only have two panaflo M1A's on my Thermochill 120.3 rad.

that output barb is stupidly thick considering the ID on it... i wonder why they do that.. my iwaki is the same in that regards..

is it just me or is this pump considerably larger than the RD30?

    otherwise very nice..

I think it's actually smaller than the RD30 Maxxx.

the ludicrously bright paintjob makes it look bigger :-P
as far as i recall, all of its specs (including dimensions) are more or less the same as the RD-30's

That was the first thing that made me go WTF? Maybe they did that to keep the same size OD barb/hoses. Even though the inlet barb has a bit larger OD. Any chance the smaller ID on the output barb would help build up pressure or improve pump effeciency?

    As for actual measurements...

    The 30PIZ pump is 18mm inlet/outlet barbs, with overall dimensions of 112mm W x 119mm H x 123mm L. specs

    The RD30 pump has 18mm inlet/outlet barbs, with overall dimensions of 112mm W x 119mm H x 110mm L. specs

So about 13mm longer on the Panworld, though the RD30 seems to take up more volumn.

hmm... just an optical illusion i guess.

id like one of those beasts.. now we just need to get panworld or iwaki to make a 12V flavor and we are set.
