    T-Bred burnouts?

Just curious if anyone has heard stories of Thoroughbreds burning out at high voltage like Northwoods are fond of doing. And if so, what do you guys figure is the max voltage to make it last? I'm about to get one, so I want to know how high I can go .

Max my Vmod can supply is 2.15V....

Yet to experience anything like this. Been running them on high voltages for months now...all flavors of Tbreds...air-cooled, water-cooled...you name it. Typically instability tells me a certain voltage is too high with these chips. For some chips its under 2v, for others its well over.

I've heard nothing as of yet, although there has of course been much discussion about this in various forums.

As N8 says, useful voltage varies from chip to chip. If you force it, you'll kill it.

I havent heard of any T-Breds suffering from the instant northwood death sindrome, KE. Been interested in this myself, and poked around a bit.

Okay, good. That basically confirms what I'd read before, but I was just making sure .

I read somewhere that the reason that these can take the same kinds of voltages as Palominos and Thunderbirds is that AMD was using 0.13u gates in their 0.18u processors. So the Thoroughbreds can handle the same voltage before Gate oxide breakdown as the palominos can. Just something I read, but it does explain it away quite nicely .

Strangely enough, something about that rings true, although it's been a really long time since I read it. Or maybe I'm getting confused about something else.

I've been running a 1700+ at 2.05v for a couple of months now. I work in a computer shop, so hey, free RMA if I kill it. I was curious as well, but this CPU is a tough mofo. Once I get my pelt up and going I'll shoot for 2.15v.

I've pumped 2.275v into all my tbreds. only for a lil while but they all survived and I myself have tested 5. Highest temps I seen were ~46c(except my 2400+, its a hotty) with a slk800/ tornado. But for 24/7 I usually keep it around 2v give or take. No probs yet.

    Is it still ghoing dude?

Just got mine yesterday, AIUHB 0301. Pumping 1.8V into it straight away with 173 fsb. Was wondering how much Vcore it would take...

    This topics interests me also!

I have yet to come across a user saying they're Athlon died of SADS like Intel's P4s SNDS.

Time will tell.... But I'm sticking at 2v for now with my Athlon XP 1700+ at 2.23GHz.

Okay, good to see so many positive reports. I should be getting mine up and running tonight sometime.

i am worried about this as well

all my research shows no deaths of thoroughbreds due to high voltage

currently have mine at 1.87 volts to get 2301mhz stable
Beat on it till its BROKEN

Then you can say you did it right

I havent been able to kill one yet.

I blasted my Xp-1600 (palomino) with 2.4v on water and it lived.

Im not going to say there isnt some risk in the long term, but i havent seen anybody much kill an AMD CPU due to too much voltage for a long time.

if your buying a relatively cheap 2100 Btype then I wouldnt be afraid of iving it high volts, you can allways buy a new chip in a year.

3 2200+ dead the first saw 2.2v and took my KX7 bios rom with it, the second saw 1.90v and got very slow very fast... then died. my 3rd never went above 1.85v and it still slowed to a crawl. .... never died tho. my 4th was a winner... i have no clue about the first 3 but none of the tbreds ive owned since have had any problems.

Might be your mobo? Or maybe power supply? Ive only killed a duron 600 which was clocked @ 1530MHz and Vcore above 3V.. dunno why it died :smileysex

I've got my 1700 t-bred at 1.90v and the thing idles at 35c... (I'm sure the core is 45C). At full load it hits 38-39c with a slk800, radio shack heatsink paste and 36cfm fan.

I was able to hit 2320mhz at 1.95v but didn't feel comfortable leaving there long... maybe when the chip is a few months old I'll crank 'er up... damn, I don't want to kill this fantastic chip before the end of the first week.

1600+ running at 2.3v for over a year. It's now in my friends computer running smooth at stock volts. 2400+ at 2.15v for a month and a half now still no problems.
