I moved my dfi to 5v vdimm feed for all of five minutes. Shut down and touched the heatsink right at the corner of the board (Will be right by your cd drives when mounted in a typical case). It gave me a blister. Literally. I've never felt a mobo component get so hot, and this was WITH the heatsink on it. I wouldn't be surprised if this mosfet (I assume that's what's under there) starts crapping out after it gets so hot and this causes wild vdimm fluctuations that kill the ram. Not sure if this has been mentioned already, just posting my experience.
