Do we know that they are doing that? I assumed that they were just getting rid of hyperthreading on the 8core i7 part. In the past the i5 was 2c4t or 4c4t, and right now the desktop i5 is 4c8t or 6c6t.
From this super official picture, looks like i9 is only processor with HT. 6 core 12 thread processor will make the 8 core 8 thread process a hard sell... Unless they are getting much better yeilds by disabling HT I don't understand why they would do this...
