Installed my new A64 3400+ in my Abit KV8pro a couple of days ago. Everything runs fine and all, except this small little detail. The Bios and Abit EQ reports my CPU temperatures well over 100C. It kept shutting down as soon as i got into windows so i had to disable the automatic shutdown (which was set to 90C). After a few hours playing Splinter Cell Abit EQ reported temperatures in the 120ees.
This just can't be right. I mean common, i knew Abit had some issues with their temperature readings but this is just rediculous.
What i did whas that i took an external temperature diode and placed between the heatsink and the CPU. This of cource made for a bad contact between CPU and heatsink, but nevermind. Even though i had such poor contact, the CPU idled at 33.5C and reaced 65 at full load. I think with good contact it should be below 60C. Anyway, the bios and abit EQ reports temperatures over 60 degrees WRONG?!?! WTF??! Even at idle my external diode reads 33-34C and the bios and abit EQ reads 80-85C!!!!
Any ideas what i could do to fix this? Bios update or just ignore it?
