Was really hoping to eventually settle the cards in at 1Ghz core - not sure I will push memory that much.

As long as I get reliable 1Ghz I will be thrilled. For $1k U.S. EACH they better reach that imho. The different SKUs from EVGA make me nervous I used to build entire top of the line PCs for $2k.
