itll enter the atmosphere and spread... and im not sure what amounts of steam we are talking here but its not just a little... and if the core has been breached then its not just lightly radiactive either... and even IF the core hasnt been breached, higher pressure and temps and saltwater and sooner or later it may just happen...

the seawater containing bor acid (which is only used when u actually want to stop a meltdown) will evapor into the air. there is no way to fill it into a closed cooling cycle, also there should be no reason to do so, if the cooling cycle is still closed. so we have to expect the core to be open.
i don´t think that media is overhyping this at all. think of tschernobyl 25yrs ago. michail gorbatschow was informed of the meltdown by sweden, not his own people.

yes thats what i expected as well...
but the jap gov is feeding cnn and other news channels bs news...
today they are now starting to report that it was hydrogen, yesterday at least some tv stations still reported the official story of this being a pressure explosion and only some limited amount of slightly radioactive steam leaked...

i think the jap gov is not telling us the truth... they know... they wont say anything cause they fear that it causes a mass hysteria and an exodus from nearby tokyo, which would make all matter even WORSE...

The heat of the nuclear reaction caused the creation of hydrogen und that's what exploded. Knallgas, kennste doch noch aus der Schule :p

yeah sure... just not sure cause over here in the media they quoted jap gov officials as saying it was a caused by the high pressure only

besides, if i understood it correctly if the core has been breached, it is designed so cooling water is kept within the structure right?
well according to some reports that is the case with 2(!) reactors in fukushima right now, and both structures are flooded with sea water to the top...
