You don't need 16x + 16x - VGA will do fine with just x8 (tested in last months compo).

If 8x/8x is not limiting any bandwidth then the problem I'm having with the Gigabyte P55 USB3 board is something else - some odd pcie sharing problem?
Could IRQ sharing be the problem?

edit - ok, yes, maybe vga will do fine but what about sharing bandwidth with an Areca 1231 or 1880?
