The NAR res (diy)

There are so many post here showing exquisite craftsmanship and beautiful things. This is not one of those posts. To be honest I feel guilty polluting the forum .

My first attempt at making a reservoir, indeed my first attempt at making anything out of acrylic, is to say the least a bit messy. But it doesn't leak, it does 'fit' and it is trapping air, viewed in these terms I consider it a success

So, with no further ado I give you the NAR (No Angle Right ) Saddle res.





This is the Saddle part, it's designed to fit over a TC rad. Well, the actual design is for something else but this is a main feature allowing use of a top mounted rad while allowing the res to still be at the top of the loop.






A major problem is the height of the top section. Roughly (oh so very rough ) equal to the thickness of a 25mm fan it means there is little space for the air trap. I placed two horizontal baffles in this space and designed the flow area to match that of 1/2" tube. It's a close call but in testing the space is just enough provided the res is sufficiently filled. At 198mm wide it should fit within many cases.






Well there you have it. As you can see from the finishing, or lack there of, this is execrise in all the wrong ways to construct with acrylic. In fairness all I had to hand was 2mm acrylic sheet so some of the mess can be attributed to having to make all the sides double skinned.
