8800GT bios for better overclocking! *test*

Anyone else tested that it indeed allowed the card to go to 1.2v? I thought the lock was at 1.1v if you did the biosmod and if you tried to change the settings arround in program to show 1.2v it still would read at 1.1v.

Back to basics:- Even if Hor$eman's EVGA SSC Akimbo 8800gt had a "special" 1.2v core volts option, it would not follow that ALL or ANY other 8800gt would achieve 1.2 core volts when using that EVGA bios?

Available core volts is "completely Hardware related", and therefore nothing to do with modded settings created by NiBiTor type bios editing software ??

Typically, you will find that the max vCore (Hardware/bios) option for the 8800gt is around 1.05 for "average (600ish)" cards and can be up to 1.15v for "performance (650-700Mhz)" cards. And because it is Hardware controlled, playing around with bios settings that are outside your hardware's programmed capabilities will achieve nothing?

However, maybe a useful trick for many: Because of the bios design used in most 8800gt's, setting your bios's vCore at ANY level higher than available from hardware, or just leaving a "blank" for vCore, can have the knock-on effect of forcing vCore to default at max volts level obtainable from your particular hardware ---> mind you, this particular trick can become unreliable with cards that have a seperate "active" 2D mode which has it's vCore level different from that set for the 3D (Extra) mode !

darkflames, I noticed your sig shows "EVGA 8800gt @ 700/1850/2000" ---> you do realise that "1850" is not a Shader setting ---> setting 1850 actually causes the card's internal shader speed to default to 1836 ---> equal to (int(shader/54) x 54) !
