I know but the physical slots themselves look like DDR2 to me as do the labels for each slot number

I was thinking the same, after looking up some DDR3 boards, the notches are much further to the left.

so in the picture we have a DDR3 model board, with a further DDR3 label, but the slots are labeled DDR2 and the slots themselves are DDR2 aswell
