The xs general hardware section, still reeling from the OP650 whine debacle, will be redeemed with this month's PSU Of the month.

The primary obstacle ?

Atop the PSUs recommended for high end single cpu + single gpu systems stands the popular and confident Corsair HX 620W. No powersupply within a 150W radius has the guts to challenge its price/performance/wattage dominance, and the rock solid stability, whisper quiet operation and tons of power make it the ideal choice for most of today's rigs, especially now that the OP650 is down and out.

But perhaps there is still hope for choice in the single gpu/cpu frontier. Could there be a $150 PSU with more power than the 620W HX, have the modular feature AND a 8-pin pci-e connector WITHOUT having to call up Corsair marketing

At the end of the road lined with fans wanting to get a choice in one of the most popular PSU segments comes the new 80 Plus Crossfire certified Enermax Infiniti 650W. Charged with holding up the mantle the OP650 so easily dropped, the Enermax 650W, available at many places between $150 and $175 USD, comes in at a whopping 624W on the 12V rails, 24W more than the Corsair HX. The PCI-E connectors are aplenty with 2 regular 6-pin and one single 6+2pin connector for that hearty DX10 card. Adding to its fame is the recent JonnyGURU review of the 720w infiniti that the units operate at amazingly close to 80% efficiency at the hottest and highest loads, even if the temperature reaches a tad high at loads above the spec of the PSU, garnering a 9.5/10 overall.

The Enermax Infiniti 650W is in an exclusive club of DX10 Ready PSUs that can power single quad core + single High end DX10, or quad core + high end mainstream GPU SLI (GTS/XL). Though it will have an uphill battle trying to take the crown away from the Corsair HX 620W, the Enermax Infiniti 650W represents one of the best products from a brand name PSU maker that takes the time to update its product line to keep pace with current technology.

As it is a newer product, as time goes on prices should bring it around the $150-$160 range
