In that case, the manual is wrong. (Seriously, see page 2-13.) Which I can believe, but dammit, someone should fix that.

Unless you run in IDE emulation mode (and thus losing most advantages of SATA), you do need drivers to install Windows. ACHI is what you want for true SATA.
Thanks, I suspected that. Should I use the updated Intel drivers or the one on the Asus CD?
