EnjoyASUS removes the SLI switch and adds a heatpipe to their latest nForce4 motherboard for the AMD platform. We take a look at the A8N-SLI Premium and end up quite impressed. Here's a bit from the article:
Another thing that’s not to be found on the AN8-SLI Premium is the SLI connector between the PCI slots that lets you switch between Single and Dual card modes. ASUS makes the SLi selection process automatic and this is how it should be. The space where the switch lies is utilized to provide an additional PCI-E x4 slot giving you a total of two PCI-E x16 slots, one PCI-E x1, one PCI-E x4 slot and three 32-bit PCI slots.

I killed 2 cards today, I don't have any clue how. I put them on the Cascade for testing a BIOS. I get nothing but a colored mess now with the cards. I never got past the Bios.Originally Posted by althes

LOL They're barely out to retail and you killed two nex gen cardsOriginally Posted by OPPAINTER
On the bright side, you have paperweights with some really cool looking heatsinks
Seriously though, this could get very interesting if nV doesnt fix this cold bug by the end of next month. Already, the hype sampsa created has dyed down, and only with your amazing benchies on water do ppl still have high hopes of overclocking the g70.

I'm new here, but I have just one question for OPPAINTER. Will the new 7800GTX's support multiple monitors in SLI, unlike all the 6xxx series cards.
I've made enough WRs for one weekOriginally Posted by Gorod

I assume they do, they have 2 monitor connectors just like the 6xxx series.Originally Posted by GraveyardPC

But to nVidia there IS no "cold bug"... the cards perform as functioned and engineered. Noones going to design/redesign for the .001% of users with phase change GPU coolers.Originally Posted by perkam

To clarify: the new SLI is supposed to support 2 monitors (1 per card) but not 2 monitors per card, correct? The 6800's did not. I thought they got it fixed.

OPP, dont think they're dead yet, didya try them when they're warmer?Originally Posted by OPPAINTER
So, your saying that you don't even know that two 6xxx series cards cannot support multiple monitors while in SLI? Well, they only support one while in SLI and two (per card) without. This is why I am going to upgrade from my 6600GT SLI setup to a 7800GTX SLI setup -- If the SLI multiple monitor support issue is fixed with the new G70 GPU.Originally Posted by OPPAINTER
Also,
is wrong, the second card is a slave. Meaning, the slave card cannot use any video output as long as it is a slave (used in SLI).Originally Posted by dwwalker14335

Wow you messed up the cards![]()
Maybe just the main one got cooked? ... That will teach you to stick em under the cascade one at a time![]()
Well if you feel like throwing them away, you could always just send them to me![]()
I hope Nvidia overnites a shipping tag to ya for return so they can diagnose the failure. It seems like they're are trying hard to get ontop of FM ORB and you are really helping them.... Really nice 6800gt SLI scores BTW in '01![]()

OPP just try to reflash to original bios. It should fix the mess. The flash probably did not go well. Get a reg pci card boot with it and flash to original bios.
By the way are there any bios editors for 7800's? Are there 2d/3d speeds like in 6800's?
Also if you can with original bios using Rivatuner you can enable LowPower3d. Then just max it over the setting the card start's throttling on. Could fix that "cold bug" which is nothing more than protection kicking in.
On 6800's LowPower3d is the safe point the card would throtle too when driver decides that its ether too much heat or too much load on the card.
Good luck on fixing those
