ye banias are a bit old now, they are still resonable o/c'ers but fall short of the mighty power of the 2mb l2 cache of the dothan

im not sure how much slower it is for gaming and benchies as such, i havnt seen a tread around here with anyone who can compare the banias vs dothan at the same speed, but i think the dothan is optimised a fair bit over the banias, and it seems to show a bit here : http://www.gen-x-pc.com/review_dothan_pro.htm

I personally think this chip has alot furthur to go, and for £12 that is an absolute bargin, as in my other thread i think i said it was 12 hour prime stable at 1.75G but i had to stop out of fear of frying my gfx and sound card.

edit: just found this http://www.tomshardware.com/mobile/2...dia_and_memory which shows the dothan is quite a bit quicker than the banias, + it uses strained silicon which is why its an awsome o/c'er.
I would like to see a banias o/c'ed properly, so get back to us with some results

Yep. Difference between Banias and Dothan/Sonoma is more than l2 cache. Enhanced branch prediction and some other stuff IIRC. I think you'd find the 1mb C-Ms with Dothan core being faster than banias P-Ms as well.

Here are some of my results from my Banias 1.6GHz out of my laptop (max with stock ct-479 cooling was 2.25GHz at 1.75v, stock volts are 1.45v). Board used was a Asus P4C800-E. Also note the fairly high voltages used (i did a vcore and vdrop volt mod to the motherboard to get the higher voltages)

First Picture is of vcore volt mod and vdrop mod:

Temps were up to 60degrees with a faster fan on the stock heatsink.

I didn't test any other performance, as i only quickly wanted to test whether the adaptor worked and only had a PCI video card in, which limited me to a fair few tests. I then disassembled it and put the cpu back in my laptop.

Seeing as i have uni exams soon, i want to wait till after them, then i will get a sonoma and vapochill it.

Yeh, i think physically they are still 478 pins, but they say 479 as the pin orientation is slightly different and so people don't think they can just stick a Pentium M in a normal S478 motherboard.

My stepping is, sl6fa, which has exactly the same specs except it is 1.6GHz and your sl6f1 is 1.5GHz.

    I got a Celeron M 340 (1.5Ghz Banias) that can POST at 2.0Ghz. It's only stable at 1.87Ghz (125FSB). Runs that around 1.5V core.

Have had a Banias Pentium M (1.3GHz) that got to 1.8Ghz (10 x 180) stable at stock volts and a few Banias Celeron Ms that go to very much the same kind of overall limit (at different FSBs due to them having a fixed multiplier). I now have a Dothan Celeron that gets up to 2.34GHz (13 x 180) @ stock and am waiting for a CT479 to arrive before I try them all out again and see what I can get with a higher vcore... Will try the Banias chips out first incase I fry anything

    i can get ...
    120x15 on stock volts 1.488
but my p4p800se does not give me voltage control options.
seems to be that 1.488 is the highest voltage i can select.
    with (esit)

i have tried doing the socket mod
    (1.55v mod) and have failed.

Pin G accross to the left.
and 4th line down. should give 1.55v

any ideas why it hasnt worked?
