    yes.. another UTT .. this time PROMOS UTT for sure.. on KVR

    hi guys, yesterday i just found this Kingston KVR 512mb in my friend's computer, and .. walla... another UTT .. with PROMOS logo

    the logo on promos website :

    the RAM :

    okay.. very excited at the first place.. but..

    the results are sucky right now..

    i try it on my rig (see sig), and the results are (1x512mb - memtest)

    200mhz 2-2-2-5-7-15 :

    3.1v = hundreds of error
    3.2v = thousand of error
    3.3v = more error
    3.4v = not yet ..

    atm i'll look for more sticks and try it , maybe this one just one of those "sucky" RAM..

    and.. the KVR's PCB is bigger than my twinmos PCB(jedec), and KVR got "made in china"

    ups.. forgot.. it runs 200 2-3-3-8 2.7v .. lobby test high detail passed..

    why 2-3-3-8? because it's OCZ VX default timing n volts...

    If this truly is UTT, then 1GB of it for under $95 at Newegg is a steal :
    http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...141-423&depa=1

    (P.S. I checked the model code, this is also "KVR400X64C3A", just with "K2/1G" at the end to identify the dual channel and 1gb features)

    NOT UTT !!!!

    That isn´t UTT, thats plain old CH-5 that doesn´t overclock very well.
    Tested various "SAT5B" Valueram and none of those ran 2-2-2 error free, no matter what the voltage was.

    However, I'm quite dissappointed the age old rule of posting Screenshots of memory in CPUZ along with Sandra is being followed less and less. We can only believe so much on word of mouth u know

    Hey Stilt, nice to see ur posting a tad more often, always nice to have ur expertise on any thread . Though now that u are here, how come so much hit and miss with these:

    wrong PCB for UTT performance. Looks like my HyperX ch-5, but that pcb looks by far cheaper design.

    Lol Hey Eva,

    Those are some pretty comprehensive tests for each ram, I'm not sure everyone's up to that. But then again, that makes it really hard to deny a high fsb pic.
    Thats a very good example though. But at the very least some pics of cpuz/sandra at different timings and different volts should be a requirement or something.

    Twinmos probably noticed the value of UTT chips, and stopped using them in their "vanilla" sticks. I haven´t seen a single "vanilla" (non speed premium) stick that have UTT chips on them made after week 05 of 2005.

    I spotted some interesting looking chips from 1GB kit of CL3 ValueRam...
    Those chips have similar two dots like Winbond chips, but the two metal pieces on the each two sides of the chip are more narrow than in Winbond chips. Tried these on ol´ good IC7 motherboard, and they ran flawless at 210MHz with 2-3-2-5 latencies (2.6V). I think that Infineon did something to these chips, because they can do CL3 unlike normal Winbond chips.

    Raising VDD didn´t help with latencies, so this is basically old CH-5 chip made by Infineon. Order code for the chip is HYB25D256160CT-5.

    These chips come on ValueRam sticks relabeled as D3208DLCT-5A

    According to a computer rag, the spd for these sticks is 3-3-3-8.

    I know you didn't mean that did you? After all TwimMOS/M.tec label their UTT chips, don't they? And I believe that so do Kingston and Adata.

    yes that's correct, i think it's just a relabled "promos"..

    about the test ..

    this one really really sucks... now i cannot boot to windows if i use more than 3v.. only with default timing it can boot to windows

    i can boot once with 3v and 2-3-2-5 @ 200 and do 1m super pi ( didnt do screenshot because i want to try 3.1v.. so i restart.. and cannot boot again)

    what interests me the most is.. finnaly a "promos" logo showed up, which confirmed Promos involment in this "UTT hype", but it this case.. the Promos "labeled" chip didnt got a chance to meet with the right PCB (al least JEDEC - like Twinmos PCB's did).

    and sorry 4 my english

    What do you mean by this confirming ProMOS involvement in the UTT...do you mean because they are a joint venture which includes Infineon?

    I have been under the impression that to date no one has found Infineon labeled chips that have performed up to the same level as the Winbond UTT. If that is the case, then maybe the problem here is that these are probably Infineon and not Winbond UTT, as opposed to the problem being the PCB?

    As to your English...it is better than my Spanish and I'm a Cuban (I have spent most of my life, since a young child, in the States).
